I'm embarrassed to admit I'm just discovering this now. Such a gem of a historic moment, with true musical innovators, on the cusp of a whole new genre of jazz. What a great upload.
This is an awesome step back to a period in Jazz that is often overlooked, but you can hear/see the seeds of things that were to come, still in the early stages of fermentation.
This is frickin' awesome. So great to see video of this group. I'm a vibes player and huge burton fan. Interesting to see his technique for bending notes. Great video!
Great historical video! I'm just reading Gary Burton's autobiography, which is an excellent and entertaining "must read". I think the guitarist is Jerry Hahn. The previous guitarist that year, Larry Coryell, was briefly replaced after the summer of '68 by Chick Corea. But he and Burton couldn't make it mesh, so Jerry Hahn was brought in. And that must be the Jazz master drummer, Roy Haynes, who Gary finally convinced to leave the Stan Getz band.
That must be one of the earliest incarnations of "Steve Swallow - electric bassist" as he still is doubling. The left hand is still playing double bass fingerings mostly and the bass is hanging low and oblique. very interesting .

I went to college with, jammed with, and was friends with Bill Frisell. If only Gary and Jerry knew how much influence they had on Bill!
I am quite sure that both are aware of it.
Jerry Hahn knows Bill Frisell.

You are correct and it is Jerry Hahn
Yes, the great Jerry Hahn! I had the pleasure of studying with him about 20 years ago. He is still sounding great!
@@TracyKimMusic I took a Jazz Improvisation class with him in the early seventies.
Study of the month (or two, or three): Roy Haynes on this 25 minutes. Already so ahead of his time.
que increible combo!!

Yes, Jerry Hahn! I had the pleasure of sitting with him about 20 years ago in Portland Oregon. He still is sounding amazing today!
@@williamfeuer4954 ..100%..it seemed like Bill Frisell would have been possibly too young in 1968..
Is it Steve swallow elbas ??!
Yep, that's Steve. He hadn't transitioned all the way to electric bass yet. Still playing the upright on some of the tunes.

Who's the guitarist? Drummer?
That is Jerry Hahn on guitar and Roy Hanes on drums.
Hate the sound of the guitar!!! No unity at all!!
