If your paper is thin it will benefit from being wetted first. Use your ruler to drag a paintbrush loaded with water, then let it sit for 3-5 minutes, then tear. DON'T tear backwards as you would with wrapping paper. Instead, pull up and slightly away from your straight edge so that you're pulling the paper apart. This works. It took me 3 cuts to perfect it.
Impressive and pretty. I have rulers that have decorative edges but sometimes I just want to grab and tear 😄. I’ll send friends over cause not everyone has the rulers I have. Thanks for sharing your technique. Beautifully done ✔️ I’m following now ❤
Hello! I've torn using this method with a variety of bristol paper, which from my experience is similar. I feel like the only paper I've tried this on that doesn't give as jagged of an edge is like copy paper.
I just recently bought a 'deckle' ruler and then today up pops this 2 yr old vid on how to deckle using a plain ole ruler lol. Oh well. Thanks for sharing this.
Are you tearing a thin paper? I noticed if I tear a thinner paper with this method, it has less of a jagged edge. You'll likely get more uneven edges with Bristol or Watercolor paper. Also tearing really slow helps a little too.
Thank you, I'm looking to try this with photo paper. Perfect video. 😊
Well, no guillotine or jagged edge ruler and you made a perfect torn edge! Thank you

I find if u fold your paper, drag a damp/wet sponge along the edge of both sides then tear marks for a nice smoother tear. 😊
Thanks, just what I needed. I am making a journal for my sister.
I'm happy that you found it useful! A handmade journal sounds really cool!
Hi this is really cool! Does this work only on watercolor paper? Is cardstock ok?

You're welcome. I'm happy you found it helpful!
Why does min tear straight? Hmm. It’s watercolour paper.

It's "deckle edge," actually, not "deckled."
