My wife was so happy when she saw a woman that embraced her natural hair be acknowledged as beautiful. She had been toiling through the routine of straightening her hair and extensions all her adult life because the prevalent perception here in the DR is that straight hair is more attractive. When she asked me how I would feel about her having natural hair I simply said that her hair does not define her beauty because her beauty radiates from within. I she is very cute with natural hair and now that she no longer has the burden of an endless process of trying to conform to societal expectations she is happier.

Imagine how all the little dark skinned girls with Afro hair feel right now knowing that someone who looks like them won miss universe! The people who don’t think that’s a big deal are obviously not underrepresented. I love this new era of black women embracing their natural hair and teaching their daughters the same thing.

La Louloune Yeah that’s cute and all but you’re not gonna keep doing something if people constantly make fun of you for it or call it ugly. Let’s be real. Oh, and also, black women get discriminated against because of their hair in many workplaces (and black girls in schools as well).
