Water, First Aid kit/meds. Knife, Flashlight, a Lighter and a snack, must always be with you on the hike, no matter what.

For those wondering, The Nalgene bottle fits perfectly in the Pathfinder cup. Nalgene is made in USA. cup will not fit in Gonex pouch.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 oh that's so much fun. My home state has a song...'How I wish again that I was in Michigan.' lol not so much now that they passed a law that if you misidentify someone you may face jail time and 10,000 fine. Yikes! What a world we are living in. Go out and embrace the peace, get closer to God and nature. I've traveled up to Chicago and over to Wyoming. U ever get the chance, mid west is fantastic. The mountain ranges..beautiful. drive it like you stole it. Lol jk. Enjoy!

Hello, greetings from Scotland. Thanks for the talk through on your kit.
Two things to say; firstly, I didn't see, or hear you mention a whistle. Current teaching by the SMC (Scottish Mountaineering Council) is to have one attached by lanyard to the outside of your rucksack, so you can access/use it even if your arms are injured or pinned.
Secondly, I have a very similar shirt to yours, "Field & Stream" from Costco, a great bit of kit. Your kit is very well thought out, with lots of multiple use items, you obviously are very professional in your approach and attitude. I wish other Utubers putting up similar posts were as professional.
    Happy Trails.

Thank you, and greetings back from Oregon! No, don't have a whistle simply because Search and Rescue here puts up a plane immediately. Put up smoke, your home.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 I mean no disrespect when asking this, I’m assuming you have a cell signal to call for search and rescue then or you have told someone where you’re going and a time you’ll return?
My father taught me over 40 years ago that you ALWAYS tell someone where you’re going and when you should be back. I see very, very few people mention this.

@@michaelnasser8697 no cell service in the Ochoco mountains. But someone knows my general whereabouts. I live 15 minutes from the forest so I'm out there 52 weeks a year regardless of weather. It's more of a home to me than town. .Thanks for looking out.

When I get out to the wilderness, I seldom stay on the trails. And when I do make camp, I like to scout around to check for water sources, or bear sign, or whatever.
I always take a scout pack with similar gear.
I prefer a small regular pack over the sling pack (I have a couple of Maxpedition sling packs), but this one looks interesting.
ESEE 6 is an excellent knife choice. One of my Tahoma Field Knives is always on my belt, with the Brakimo as backup. Although I will carry my Armageddon sometimes too, depending on what mountain range I’m in.

When you're packing your kits, do you follow any particular system to make sure particular bases are covered, for example the 10 C's? Or do you just go with what you feel? It looks like you had most of the 10 C's covered but I was just curious.
    Thanks!

Not anymore. I walk in the woods every week, year after year. It's just a part of life. Thousands of hours, I just know what I need and what works., BUT earlier on I did use things like the 10c's to guide me

I saw some good things (leather gloves, binos, esbit/twig stove, etc.) yet I missed some things (large triangle bandage, compressed gauze, tourniquet, woobie, etc.).
Everything seems well organized. You've probably lived out of that kit for three days, right?
