I live in an upside down house, bedrooms downstairs and we have gravel outside. We've lived there for 15 years and no one has tried to break in yet! You will be fine. There are certain safety locks though that you can get which might be useful for your little boy for when he starts climbing and figures out how to open windows. Xx
