Great video! Thanks for taking us on your adventures Wendy! Brought back loads of fond memories of trips out to Pacific Rim Nat'l Park & hiking the West Coast Trail in the late 1970s & early 1980s.
What a spectacular place! So beautiful. I can see why you wanted to go back. I’m glad you found someone to go with you. Your amazing Wendy! Thanks for sharing this sacred place with us. ❤️
thank you Heidi, I am most grateful to have had Lydia. She was a perfect companion. Yes. it is a very special place for me , so glad you enjoyed sharing it.
I am a newbie to watching your videos experiences having only just discovered your channel. That was quite the hike...but what a reward at the end...such a beautiful 'soothing' for the mind and soul in listening to the surf in the day and to sleep by at night. Thank you for sharing.
❤ hello from North Carolina I'm so glad to see that you have healed up nicely I'm glad you had a good hike , good fellowship with your friend again thank you for taking me along😊
Wendy! So excited for you to make this trek with Lydia. I thought your special spot might be a Cathedral of Trees... Shalom and blessings to you and thanks for this wonderful video for those of us who are virtual hikers!
Wendy you might want to take the image of that one special place and have it made into a large print for your wall. It looked magical. My much older sister and her family were in Tofino in a campground. In the middle of the night they heard their camp being destroyed, they looked outside through a peephole not knowing what to do. They saw 3 giant grizzlies tearing up their camp and got into their metal Colman cooler with a huge metal latch. They tore it open no problem and ate their food. While the bears were busy eating my sisters family cut a hole into their tent in the back and ran into their van. Luckily her mother in law was sleeping in it and opened the door for them just in time. If that door had been locked they would have been grizzly sandwiches. She still has that cooler with claw marks for memories to never camp their again. She says she's never seen grizzlies that big and her family camps almost every weekend and summer. Many people say they've never seen bears there but they know how to hide.
oh my goodness. We do have black bears on the island and they can be quite big but seldom is a grizzly ever seen. There have been none on Vancouver Island until quite recently and I don't think any have been sighted in Tofino to date. However, a bear is a bear and if one is breaking down your camp it really doesn't matter what kind it is. That must have been a horrifying experience for sure. The national park campground there has a "bare" campsite policy which is strictly enforced as black bears and wolves have been seen there often. No coolers or empty bottles of any kind can be left out there. Nothing in any way associated with food can be left out.you will be evicted if you don't comply. It has really helped with wildlife management in the area. I hope other campsites will adopt this same policy. I am so happy to hear your family was safe. Sadly bears are shot here every year because people don't realize the dangers associated with leaving things out . I hope they have been able to still enjoy camping but I would understand if they have changed their minds
I’m so glad you made it to your special place despite the training accident before hand. You didn’t let the obstacle stop you but you also made sure you got there in the safest way possible. You show a great balance between positivity/ambition and rational decision making. Your gratitude for your experiences is infectious
New subscriber from Cochrane, Alberta here. That brought back memories of hiking the West Coast Trail 15 years ago with my husband when I was 40. So beautiful! I love that coast! I'm surprised nobody else was there - what time of year was this? Great to see more women solo hiking/camping. I've been going on a week-long vacation alone the past few years, doing some hiking and cycling. It definitely gives me a different sense of satisfaction than when I do it with someone else. But I always get lots of question from others about why I'm going alone, aren't I afraid, etc.
Hi Bonnie- I assume you refer to Raft cove on the island here. I was there several years ago. Hiked in with a girl friend. Loved it there. would be fun to go again. Interesting how certain places just speak to you. Hope you can go again.
Giggly Girls 😁 I’m watching random videos, out of order. I could watch them over & over. Your cheerful attitude and energy is very uplifting , and just makes me happy to watch. And I do love the Pacific North West!
IT's wonderful you had a company with you for this challanging hike always nice to hike with someone & What a spectacular beach area and trail, very scary about that wave but wasnt the wildlife nice to see. I can see how you enjoy this area so do I, i know the feeling your talking about i get the same where i go up in northeast Ontario. very much enjoyed this .
Beautiful couple of days. It’s the simple joys of tides, sand, fresh air, critters, and friendship shared that make life good. Nice to see you make it back to a favorite place, Wendy.
Oh Wendy, thank you for taking us along on such a beautiful journey. That area had everything you could ever want to see. The tidal pool was awesome. It is my dream to hike in an area like that. I live in West Virginia, U.S. and we have beautiful forested land but no ocean. And as always you are an inspiration. PS. I’ve been catching up on videos and really enjoying them as well.
thank you so much for your comments. I am incredibly fortunate to have this amazing display of nature near my door step. I appreciate that you are taking your valuable time to watch my mini adventures. Everywhere we live in the world holds amazing opportunities.
This is one of my favourite places. Sadly I’ve only been there once! Thanks for inspiring me to go again! It was so challenging, and muddy! When we got to the beach we saw paws in the sand and thought they belonged to a cougar, however we spotted a wolf sitting way down the beach just looking out at the ocean. Keeha is such a magical place! Loved this video ❤
A sacred place for me was walking through the giant sequoias in Big Basin, Calif. A friend was with me and we found ourselves whispering as if we were in a church. Love nature and God does too. Gramma Candy
Very beautiful scenery. Work getting there but worth it for sure. I sure miss the northern California and southern Oregon coast lines. See you next time.
Hi Wendy just found you today and have been watching most of the day as we had a thunderstorm here in okla, so just enjoy each video you live in a beautiful place! And as I watched, this couldn't help but think what a wonderful caring nurse you must have been. Sorry bout that, miss step while you were training, and picked up on you being alittle hard on yourself :) Thanks for a nice day ❤
thank you Mary and welcome to this little channel. I am very happy to hear from you. It is pouring rain here but no thunder, thank you for your kind words.
Wow! What a stunning place! Each turn brought something magical. I can certainly understand why you feel it’s a sacred place. Thanks for taking us along.
thank you Jelaine, It was lovely that she came and she has decided to accompany me again this coming summer. So... I may get to go again. we will see what the next months bring- I have my fingers crossed.
It's easy to see why this place is so special. I'm happy for you to have gotten back. I understand that feeling of being in the arms of the creator; there are some places that give me the same deep, emotional comfort. Thank you for sharing, Wendy. I'm glad that I went back to check out your previous videos that I missed.
Isn't that lovely. That so reminds me of waking up alone on the beach on Hornby Island way back in the seventies. Checking out the purple star fish in the tidal pools. Negotiated that gnarly trail quite well all things considered. Enjoying your channel. Thank you.
Wendy, thank you for sharing this special place with us - I now can envision Keeha Beach when you speak of it and understand why you find it such a spiritual place to be.💕
Thanks Judy. It has been a special place to me since the first day I was there. Just resonated with me at a deep level. It’s never changed. I’m grateful to have found it. Thanks so much for watching and your support.
Amazing! How do you find free or if there is a cost, camping? Or if a permit is needed? I’m new to hiking so if you have any tips for planning I appreciate it so much. Safe travels. God bless.
there are often fees. this one was a national park so I paid to be there. Used to be free but no more. Other places there is usually a paid for permit or a park fee. Very few actually free where I go.
left Sunday early via Alberni before the road closure then waited Tuesday til 5 to return. for those who don't know a forest fire has made the main route dangerous for travel so restrictions are in place.
Love your videos. They always encourage me to get off the couch. What precautions did you take for bear protection? i noticed you weren't carrying bear containers for food . Did you store food high up in the trees? what would have been your defense agianst a bear approaching you or your tent ?
Hi Frankie- we stored food up a high tree on a rope. I usually carry bear spray and a bear banger and a very loud whistle. I also hang any scented products plus keep my pack outside and away from the tent . I have met a few bears over the years and they have always run away. I hope this continues. My best defence its prevention. thanks for the questions.
Hello from North Pole Alaska. Feel encouraged and have hope to sometime this summer to go out for a little camp out. Is it best to hike with walking sticks or poles ?
I used to use a walking stick in my younger days but I now find that adjustable hiking poles are better for me. I find my balance and strength are not what they were. The poles help me up and over obstacles and hills, steady me on the down hills. all positive.
had some great layers. That is the only way around here. It is incredibly beautiful and I loved doing my video. It is something I can watch many times. thanks for watching Malcolm
Your so inspiring!! I'm so happy to have found your videos, what a beautiful place! I also live on the island. How is the drive up to the trail? Are the roads rough? I see the trail is a good work out😊
Hi Wendy--Keeha Beach is a pretty beach! I'm glad that Lydia joined you so you could share in your adventure. When you pitched your tent, how far from the ocean did you set up camp? I camped north of you near Tofino with a friend many years ago. The First Nations' people whose ancestors lived here before we did treated the land, trees, animals, and fish as sacred with respect, only taking what they needed. I can see why it's a sacred place for you, too, and holds a special place in your heart. ❤ 🐙🐡🐬🦭🌊Jenny
thank you Jenny- We pitched our tent well above the high tide line. I once woke in the night to someone down the beach from me hollering as the ocean crept up on them and soaked them. I bet they never did that again. I took a lesson from their experience too.

What a marvellous trip. Thank you, Wendy, from a 76 year old longing for a forest bath.

Thanks for listening. It is a special place to me.
Very nice. 😊 That's a pretty solid walk in there. I can imagine it was tiring. Great job. 😊

The rooty steps on your hike remind me of some on the Spirit Rock trail on the escarpment at Bruce Peninsula in Ontario.
Maybe the more difficult the trail the greater the reward! thanks Wendy
