  • While all roads may lead to Rome, I prefer to roam all the roads! Join Cody as he uncovers this civilization building game from Forbidden Games. Will it stand the test of time? Or should you leave it buried in the sands? Let's watch!

    Cody... I think the idea of a video comparing it to Clash of Cultures, Civilization or Maren Nostrum is a great idea! You have a top 10 CIV building games a while ago...a 2023 update would be awesome!
    Rome Total War the boardgame is also coming out soon! Did you ever play Hellenica: history of Greece?

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, at some point I think I need to update my Top Ten Civ games, maybe in the coming year sometime. I'm excited about RTW, as I loved the board game - although Napoleon Total War was my favorite by far. I have never played Hellenica. Good?

    Hi Cody,
    I have a copy and have played it solo and agree that it is a strong contender for #1 game of the year.
    This game will stay in my collection.
    Take care

    Love this game! I only played it a couple of times so far, but it has a really nice flow to it. The variety with the starting techs, leaders and different civ achievements is a plus as well. Civ games are my favorite kind of game.

    I have played it a few times, we have all concluded going heavy into idea production and getting technology cards is a very strong strategy.

      The playtest group loves Tech Cards...but they tend to focus these days (after 100 or so plays), focus on pursuing the Civ Achievements + Golden Ages, with some area control sprinkled on top.

      Oh! And ALWAYS get a government as soon as you are able. A government that fits your strategy can generate 20 - 30 VP's throughout the game.

    Out of curiosity, have you made up your mind about Mosaic vs New Dawn (+ expansion) ?
    Apologies if I missed the video about Mosaic vs Civ New Dawn or a newer version of your Top 10 Civ games; I've scanned all your videos since Mosaic and didn't find any, so I decided to ask here :)
    I really enjoy your videos :)

      Thank you, sir. I really enjoy Civ A New Dawn + expansion, but I think Mosaic is the superior game. However, they are different enough that I am keeping both on my shelf.

    • @SpookyNeo
      @SpookyNeo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer Thank you for getting back to me. While I never played both, I agree that both seems to be different enough. However, and maybe because I am a Civ/Age of Empires guy on PC, but Civ has a very nice presence on the table.

    Have you had a chance to play with / review the Wars & Disasters expansion? Does the game lose any of its action elegance with the addition of expansion content?

    Much as I like the game, I wish in retrospect that I had not ordered the kickstarter 'Colossal' edition. It is hard to store, almost impossible to transport, and is almost as much of a table hog as 'prestige' titles like War Room; though I think the retail edition also has the big table footprint.
    The token setup instructions are, inexplicably, unnecessarily convoluted; most people will just draw the trade goods one at a time from a bag or cup and systematically add them to the board from west to east or whatever, not going through the absurd step of facing them all down, mixing them, putting them out, turning them up, and removing the nulls. They should have included a little inexpensive bag for this.

    Great review looks like a good one, if it can handle all that stuff and stay easy to get into. Presentation looks interesting, a good balance of colour and period feel. Not easy to find though in my part of the world, yet, ie Australia.

    Looks fun, but there is no solo bot in the retail version, which is a deal breaker for me, and I'm not paying for the expensive kickstarter big box, so pass for me.

    Tapestry is a heavily abstracted Civ game, my group dint like it, it was not logical in its progression, it was point salad, and unsatisfying in terms on understanding your progress. How do you feel this plays in initial comparison, thx

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked Tapestry, appreciating that it is very abstract. Mosaic is the better, more thematic game, though it too has its abstractions.

    I want one civilization building game set millennia ago with a map of China or India or South America just to remind people that other continents didn't POOF! onto the planet around 1600. The Olmecs existed - look 'em up!
    Sorry - angry historian rant over.
    Side note: games look interesting. I'll have to play it to see how it compares to Clash of Cultures.
