The exploits of WW1 Fighter pilots/Scouts did very little in advancing the frontline eastwards. Some of the stories are exaggerations of what really happened. Billy Bishop VC is a good example. It was the pilots who later in the conflict who bombed and strafed troop concentrations and artillery positions helping the advance in 1918 that made real difference.

My granny, Daisy Lewis was a VAD. Sadly aside from one photo and my father telling me as much I know nothing more about her activities. It's enough to know that she played her part.

There were so many organisations of women without whom the war effort would have been nigh-on crippled.
Additional to the VAD there were ATS (in which our own late QEII served), the FANY, the WAAF, the ATA, the Womens Land Army, and more whose unit names escape me for the moment.
On a side issue let us not forget the vast numbers of girls who served at Bletchley (where my own father served in WWII) and without whom Bletchley could not have been Churchill's "goose that laid the golden eggs but never cackled".

Deposed by the British, exiled to Britain, and became friends with the Queen, who became godmother to one of the children who got a free house, then protested against the government.
Stalin had a more simple approach.

Spanish Flu actually originated in the US but because of reporting restrictions only the flu raging in Spain could be mentioned.

    • @TheHistoryChap

Thanks for the vote and the explanation about the origins of Spanish Flu.

    • @dougearnest7590

@@TheHistoryChap - Actually, the first recorded cases all within about a month were reported in the USA, Germany, France, and the UK. Epidemeological data was extremely sketchy, and it was impossible to determine the country of origin. The fact the first recorded case was in the USA means little, given the almost simultaneous occurrances far from the US, and the turmoil and state of the public health services in other countries mentioned.
(Funny how quickly people will grab on the flimsiest of evidence to make the USA the bad guy, isn't it?)
It is true, though, that those reporting restrictions (due to the War) were what led to it being called the Spanish Flu, since Spain was neutral and didn't institute the same level of restrictions on the press.
