I can see you're in love with "working" mechanism, which is understandable because I also like moving flywheel or valve gears or whatever the moving things on locomotives. That's why I like Fergus and Theo, especially the latter. I totally understand why you're obsessed with making intricate side-rods on Tomy customs, and your ideal Trevor with the working valve gears is awesome!
As a certified traction engine (amd Trevor) fan, I might tell you about Trevor's mechanism, so Trevor's basis "Fiery Elias" is a double crank compound (DCC) traction engine (AKA the ones with exposed valve gears) but in the TVS and the RWS Trevor is depicted as a single crank compound (SCC) traction engine (AKA the type with the box covering the valve gear)
I have an idea on how you can make Trevor's valve gear move you can take the wheel that is on the side where the gear is for Trevor's valve gear then remove some of the wheel that's closest to Trevor's body then attach like a piece of cardboard and like a circle or Lego piece and then attach a Lego piece to the Gear so then it just uses the pulley system to turn the gear to then make the system work

Ah yes, Trevor in Black. That’s exactly how I envision him.
Beautiful
