What anime would you like to see compared to its manga? Patreon: www.patreon.com/somewherepastnever Discord Server: discord.gg/Vu7KeayMZT Channel Art + Avatar by: twitter.com/Sea_Chelle_Arts
Hmmm...How about *#HunterXHunter* and also *#SailorMoon**?* I heard the tone of the latter is too disparate from the anime. Anyway, amazing *#YuyuHakusho* vid, man! I'm watching now while eating dinner! Nostalgia sauce, you know! 🥀😎🐉 *#Togashi** **#fanatic** here!*
My only issue with this arc is when Kuwabara (the most spiritually aware character in the series) couldn't catch on to the fact that Genkai had been killed even though Kurama and Hiei knew without Yusuke telling either of them. From what I gather though, Kuwabara lost (most of, if not all of) his spiritual awareness as a side effect of Suzuka's magic item.
Love that the anime makes a bigger spectacle out of some action scenes, like Kuwabara's comeback against Risho. The one-tap in the manga was funny though
The version of the dub where Suzuki is called Suzuka is an earlier version because they were afraid of getting sued by Suzuki motor corp. Years later, Funimation realized this wasn’t much of an issue and went back and redubbed it to have all the characters say “Suzuki” in the latest releases.
You’re actually a god, I’ve been watching the anime and I’m at the yusuke and togoro fight and I always wonder how much the anime differs from the manga thanks
Have a lot of fond memories of watching the anime back when first aired on Cartoon Network (I was freshly out of high school and sort of drifting around) and loved it, even waking up super early when Chapter Black episodes were on at like 5 A.M. Recently read the manga since it got added to the Shonen Jump app and have to say it's aged great, The Dark Tournament onward is still top tier shonen. Much as the Three Kings arc catches a lot of flack I absolutely loved it, how it was about the Demon World overall more than just the usual fights we already got a ton of before that point. Awesome comparison video and I'll definitely have to check them all out!
it’s a shame i’ve discovered your videos through these YYH videos. it’s also a shame at first it seemed like you didn’t want to just focus on YYH, but that’s to where you are now, with being the best at it. your work does not go unnoticed. thank you, king 👑
I have to admit, the arc with Dark Tournament is the strongest of all four. When I watch it now, I feel like these battles are very gritty and reveal quite a bit about the characters. The opponents of Yusuke and his friends are truly terrifying, for example the battle with Dr. Ichigaki zombifying people was intense. And the way Toguro single-handedly defeated a team of opponents makes you marvel at the power of this demon. So far, this story arc is one of the ones I like the most, as well as the Labyrinth Castle story arc. It will be interesting to see what the differences will be in the last two sagas.
dawg i'm gonnna be real with you, as a manga reader first, it was CRAZY to see shizuru and sakiyo's relationship on the silver screen for the first time LMFAO tbh i'm not really that big of a fan of the dark tournament aside from the story itself, but i think part of it might of just been the anime adaption clouding my judgement but to me it just seemed paced a bit off in comparison to everything else (3 kings excluded) tbh idk how you feel about shizuru and sakiyo being one of the most memorable parts of that arc for me now, not in a good way, but it's certainly hard to forget LOL
41:30 in the Brazillian dub, Toguro mentions that hes envy of Yusuke team (or humans in general?) that are whole/perfect, and can reach 120% of his power against a enemy.
You skipped over some big ones, especially all the other mentions of the spirit wave. In the Manga, the spirit wave is just the shotgun and Yusuke has been using it the whole time. In the dub, they claimed the spirit wave was the technique Genkai used to purify team Ichigaki.
I very nearly added that but the wording is just ambiguous enough that I wasn't sure which side of the line it was on. But rest assured, I certainly noticed it!
Great vid, the anime really fleshes out some of the character relationships a lot more, one example being Hiei and Kuwabara. Would love to see you compare hxh manga to the 2011 adaptation. I know its not your fav series but it would still be good because theres plenty of differences to point out that are interesting. I hope things settle and you can find the balance that you want between life turbulence and content making. 👊🏼👊🏼 thanks Sat 🫡
I'm definitely not opposed to doing HxH! If that's something people would like to see, then I don't see why not~ And I appreciate the kind words; things are probably going to be chaotic for a while but we're still rockin' and rollin'
Did you know this manga is back in print, it’s a good time to start collecting it aswell. But yeah if I’m being honest I love the manga a lot more than the anime just for pacing wise. But this tournament arc is still legendary.
This will be a long comment, but I wanted to say a lot. I kinda wish that Anime didn't cut Atsuko out. She wasn't that important to this saga, but still (especially since she's still in the intro). Also I wanted to add that, Butajiri's motivation for wanting to take revenge on Yuskue for (what he thinks) killing Tarukane and Sakyo reveling to him that he was the one that killed Tarukane is English dub exclusive. In fact, Tarukane isn't mentioned at all by the Black Black Club in the japanese version and Sakyo doesn't mention to the other members that he killed both him and Butajiri. I guess it's probably because of the mention of Gonzo being their founder when he lost everything in the English dub, they wanted to add more to his role in the story. Another thing is that Ichigaki survived his fight with Yusuke in the manga, where in the anime his fate was left unknown. Although, there was a sega game gear game where he is ultimately destroyed by Team Urameshi.
41:09 tin the Latin American Spanish dub (and Japanese) Toguro does mention the “this is 100% of 100% line, as well as the 120% power from Yusuke So some of the dialogue changes you’re mentioning are more of the Anime English dub, rather than simply Anime vs Manga
Best thing here is that both manga and anime compliment each other story wise which clears up some stuff on the anime lacks which the manga has and vice versa. But I agree the shoe in thing with Kuwabara's sister with Sakyo is bad.
I do appreciate how the anime does provide more character moments, especially for Team Uramashi. But, they also made Yusuke a bit more of an ass to Kuwabara. Also, straight out love that Keiko carried Yusuke out.
Thank you for covering this. Just like in the early days of Dragon Ball z this anime holds a special place in my heart. 🤔 On a side note if I ever get the chance I would need to ask the animators what were they doing with this close up shot? 36:56 that is a 90s ass, we had the best shape best, music, best games it was a different time.😅 Anyway the person who made this animation must have forgot that that high schooler student is still under age
Amazing video as always. Also not sure why, but the notifications had been turned off for your channel. Not sure if I accidentally hit turn off notifs(I'm 99% sure I didn't) or if it was something more "sinister".
Hey man! Love yu yu hakusho and the channel! Would love to have you on my podcast Fandoms and talk about hunter x hunter and your experiences and opinions on the series, your experiences with other fans, and how you got into making videos on the series.

I was surprised that the scene where Keiko and Yusuke talk about going to Disney Land was anime only!! I always recalled it as a canonical scene.

I'm winding down and chillin after having finally unpacked my room at my new place. So this video is well timed for me. Gratitude.
Congrats on the new place
thank you for taking the time to do this. i’m a big yyh fan & this is cool as fuck to see all the differences

My second favorite arc in yyh behind chapter black.
Thank you for this. Takes me back to when anime is life.

I love the "Are you Afraid of the Dark" theme with Elder Toguro moments. Very Nice Touch

36.57 goddamn yusuke getting caked up😂
Love this video segment can’t wait for the rest💯

The intro has the best blend of anime and manga in my opinion.
So given that Hunter x Hunter is made by the same creator, you should do a video that compares things from HxH to Yu Yu Hakusho!
I love your YYH content. Always hungry for more
Saturn is a goated south carolina native
Great video as always

I never read the manga. Damn, it looks beautiful.
Love your channel excited for the chapter black comparison
The pacing is much better in the manga, no question. But as you said, they’re both incredibly enjoyable
Reading the manga now just finished the fight against the beautiful Suzuki and team uraotogi
Funny how asa Dub watcher, Genkai's revival wasn't really touched on and was sort of there in the Chapter Black arc (might've been as a spirit)

Music @ 20 mins in. Sounds like streets of rage.
Thank you for this great content
This one goes out to the algorithm.
*What an attractive thumbnail!* 🥀🌹🥀
The name of team Rokuyokai bugs me in hindsight. Shouldn't that describe the majority of the teams?

Having never read the manga, I enjoyed your last video on this and I’m looking forward to this one
I never really read the Manga thoguh just the anime itself.
