    I just bought this as my first hive. Really grateful to have you go through the entire set up.

    I have a dozen of these hives and love them. My trick for putting them together is to use woodworking clamps. Start the joints together and then slowly squeeze them into place with the clamps. A heat gun also helps if you're assembling boxes that are relatively cool. Warm them up to make the wax a little more pliable. Don't hammer, ... squeeze the joints together. Enjoy!

    Thank for your great videos and knowledge helping us… The second deep box on a hive is used for winter cloister the bee tents to go up eating through the winter., so at spring time they start laying eggs when ever the bees are… so if you have a super., you don’t want the super full of brews and the deep at the bottom empty when spring comes., so it’s easier to change top & bottom both deep.. that is the reason why is good to used to deep boxes…

      Thank you for explaining! You can put shallow frames in a deep box if it's the first deep on your hive. I do it fairly often. Wouldn't that be a work around if the bees were to build in the super? I suppose that's not ideal because then you have all these deep frames and no box to put them in. If I ever move to a cold climate and had to buy new equipment, I think I would just go with all medium boxes! I think it would be so much easier.

    I enjoy your videos and you do a very good job of explaining the basics to beginning beekeepers. Many honey producers in the far north want large populations of bees in their hives, both for honey production and for overwintering outdoors through the long harsh winters. The spring flows can be so intense, once they finally get started, that if they only had one box the bees would be swarming and hanging in the trees.

    Thank you for doing this demo, I have ordered the hive but did not assemble yet. The supers are quality, I don't use all the materials as I make frames from beeswax, and don't use excluders

    Wood wedge to help keep the foundation bees wax in the groove of the honey frames

      Thank you for adding in that extra tip. I've never worked with beeswax foundation in my frames. They are so floppy. They would definitely need something to keep them in place.

    I have 2 Hover Hives. I agree it was difficult to put together the boxes. The wood split quite a bit.

      Thank you for sharing. I've watched other vidoes of people assembling these hives and they seemed to not have much trouble, so I wasn't sure if it was just my boxes.

    Do you think that heating the dovetails with a heat gun would melt the wax slightly thereby making it easier for them to fit together?

    • @BeekeepingMadeSimple
      @BeekeepingMadeSimple  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would try a hair dryer first. A heat gun might be too much. Its a thin coat of wax on the wood. And a rubber mallet would help a lot.

    Do you have to have 2 deep boxes? I actually ordered this hive before finding this video but it only has one deep and one honey super. Thanks for all your info!

    Are these Hoover Hives made in China? I have seen conflicting info some say they weren't but now they are and the quality has suffered. Thanks for sharing.

      I'm not sure. Probably looking at their prices. The hive I have is still in great shape. I like that they're made with fir wood and have dovetail joints. They seem a lot stronger than the boxes I got from dadant and the flow hive box fell apart fairly quickly with all those cutouts in the back for the honey harvesting.

      My bees did not like the foundation, The wood was good but I bought acorn foundation to replace what came with the hive. Again I liked all the wood parts

    Do you need to add/coat more beeswax on your the foundation or does the HooverHive kits have plenty of wax for the bees to draw out the comb? I’ve sen/herd of other brands not having enough ax on the foundation and the bees do not draw the frames out very well

      LOL I never noticed it! That would be the American cockroach. Those guys get really big here in HI. My son has named all of the regulars we see at our house Dave. These bugs really love beeswax. I was keeping the box in the shed. I'm sure the beeswax coatings attracted them.
