Two stories, one derby: LKS vs Widzew. Who has the best fans in Lodz?

- ŁKS Łódź versus Widzew Łódź - one of the fiercest derbies in Poland, first played in 1926. We visited the derby in the beautiful textile-workers city on 18th of February 2024. And we talk to two former football players from each team.
After long negotiations the authorities allowed 900 Widzew away supporters to attend the match - under extremely strict security measures. One could feel the tension in Lodz throughout the derby day. Although the quality of football on the ground was rather poor (LKS lost 0:2 and remains last in the league) - the true highlight was the support by the fans from both sides.
LKS is the oldest club of Lodz and before second World War it was much more popular than Widzew, which was only a small club of workers from one of city districts. In the eighties and nineties Widzew became one of the best teams in Poland and it gained popularity not only in Lodz but also in other parts of the country. Because of that LKS fans calls their rivals "peasants". However, nowadays both clubs have comparable amount of support in all social classes in Lodz.
The fans of Widzew Łódź are having a coalition and friendship with fans from Ruch Chorzów, Elana Toruń and Wisła Kraków. ŁKS fans are supported by Zawisza Bydgoszcz and GKS Tychy.

Widzew overall has more fans in Poland but in Łódź is 50/50, but ŁKS has more hardcore ones, Widzew has more picnics, sunflower seeds eaters while ŁKS is more focused on graffiti or hoolgan stuff. Of course because of big fan base Widzew also have everything on the place, they are dangerous enemy in the city especially because people from all around coming to Łódź to party with LKS fans on their territory, also there are some districts of Łódź where Widzew is indeed very strong, but when ŁKS is doing the same on most of their territory it is fiesta people are giving back their scarfs voluntary because they are just the regular people that want watch the football while we want something more;)

@@FootballDerby the second half was better, but in terms of the first half - I agree with you, the level of the game was low.
I am from Poznań, thus I was not in the stadium, but I think that you should visit Widzew's stadium - Widzew is well known in Poland for the great 'Premier League armosphere'.
Btw. Did you know that Łódź is known as a 'Polish Manchester'?

Wy nie isteniejecie na mieście, wasz klub to komptromitacja, wracajcie do 1 ligi ze swoimi wyimaginowanymi kibicami. Nie mozecie nawet kompletu na derby zebrać. W Łodzi rządzi WIDZEW, a te legendy o pejsatej ełksie możesz dziecią na dobranoc opowiadać.
@@atomowypaczekniszczyciel6184 w mieście ich nie widać? Ty w ogóle kiedyś byłeś w Łodzi dzieciaku? xD ŁKS ma tylko jedną dzielnicę w Łodzi - Polesie. Na śródmieściu, górnej, bałutach i Widzewie liczebniejszy jest RTS. Z resztą wystarczy spojrzeć na trybuny. Nawet darmowe bilety od Urzędu Miasta nie są w stanie ich zapełnić. A na mecz Widzewa ciężko zdobyć bilet.
@@ambitnybiegacz6711 Małe masz pojęcie "biegaczu" każdy obeznany w temacie wie, że widzew nie dorasta do pięt ŁKSowi i wasi doskonale to wiedzą. Chuligańsko nie macie szans bez pomocy zgód z nami a i nawet ze zgodami dostajecie wpierdol. A co do Śródmieścia i Bałut to chyba ci się coś mocno odkleiło.
