Ive never searched for anything other than knapped artifacts but now Im finding quite a lot of hammerstones and grinding/polishing tools thanks to channels like yours. Keep em comin!
Wow! We found one of these while dredging in the river here about 5 years ago, my wife picked it up & kept it because it was so round, close to a baseball size & rocks here are rarely round. Later that year a friend just saw it with the rest of our collection & told us it was probably an ancient tool for pounding/grinding because of the way it fits in your hand and the small flat area on it. ⚒️ So we kept it with our inside, special collection from then on. It looks exactly like the one you show. Very interesting and a good confirmation of what we suspected! Earlier this year I found a Swannanoa Point too in the river. Thanks for the info & thanks for the sub! 😁👍✨😊
I have found several and using a uv blacklight can help you see things on the rock that time and weather wash away but still leave outlines of pictures etc.
@@dprivette2520 I don't know if you can send a photo in the TH-cam comment section. But you could send photos to my email, ranimalhouse6@aol.com or give me your phone number.
I found this one in a field with points like Morrow Mountains and Guilfords. Those types of points are around 7000 years so I suspect the hammerstone is too.
That rock has a face carved in it. 2 eyes and a mouth. I live in SC and found lots of similar rocks with carving or paintings on them. Here is a trick I learned to see what might still be on the rock. Use a blacklight or uv light and and at times a magnifying glass the images that were once there would appear where the paint once was or the online of it.

I'd be glad to take a look at it. Are you on Facebook by chance. If so, you could send me a friend request if you like.
