Sorry for that... You have only one shear plane [ bolt is divided in 2 parts] in lap joint that it is in threaded part of bolt so nn=1 ns=0 (no shank plane) & in case of butt joint you have two shear planes [ bolt is divided into 3 parts ] so one plane in threaded part & one plane in shank part so nn=1 & ns=1 I hope you got that...!!🙂
If you heard correctly he said after some time in the video, about the nn and ns. And he instead of saying that we assume thread part of bolt is used in joint. He straight away said about nn =1
