    I did a piston swap myself with no instruction whatsoever two days before this video was made, it took damn near forever to figure everything out myself. This would have been so helpful but I suppose my 450 is running strong now anyways so oh well lol next time I'll use this video as a guide.

      I’ve never honestly checked! New heads come with it but I imagine you could take it out if you really wanted to. I imagine it’s sealed in there pretty good and you won’t be able to get another one unless you buy a complete head or have one made.

  • @goshua13
    @goshua13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey so my 2015 150rb was taken apart because it had some issues with the camshaft holder getting torn apart and long story short I had to replace the piston, valve, and camshaft/camshaft holder. I am having struggles trying to get the shims measured correctly. I have the cylinder head and the camshaft off the bike and I put in the new shims according to the measurements and now I over shot. I re ran the math and it still seemed correct. Do I need to have the camshaft and cylinder head on the bike connected to the timing chain and the bike in TDC to be able to get correct readings when measuring the shims.

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You absolutely have to lock the cam in the TDC position. Pretty tough to do without the cam chain locating it to the crank position mark.

    • @goshua13
      @goshua13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoteMotorcycles what was super weird was that three of them were to spec. But the one exhaust valve was not. is that because it’s not on the bike and in tdc?

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goshua13 probably not. Your shim could be dirty and not seated against the valve completely or maybe there’s some carbon on the valve face holding the valve open a bit. If the clearance is tight then you’ll need to get a thinner shim and measure from there. You shouldn’t be able to see light around the valve when looking into the exhaust port. Make sure this is correct for intake and exhaust or it’ll just pound out once you start the bike and you’ll be back to zero clearance.

    • @goshua13
      @goshua13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoteMotorcycles
      Exhaust valve measurements
      2 mm shim - up to .016(.40mm)
      2.1 mm shim - can only go up to .006(.15mm)
      Exhaust valve spec: .010
      2mm
      .016-.010 = .006 = .15mm
      .15 + 2 = 2.15 mm
      2.1mm
      .006 -.010 = .004 = -.10mm
      -.1 + 2.1 = 2mm
      The 2.1mm shim calculation told me I should get a 2mm and the 2mm shim calc told me I should get a 2.15mm so i am very confused here.

    I have oil in the cam shaft area. Will that keep it from starting?

    • @CoteMotorcycles
      @CoteMotorcycles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You want oil everywhere inside the engine. It likely doesn't start because it's : out of gas, has bad gas, carb needs cleaning or your intake valves are at 0mm clearance and need to be replaced. There could be 1000 other reasons but I would start there!

    Hi, there is a hose that comes from the right crankcase and goes to a "T" splitter then one tip goes down to the ground and the other tip seems to go up near the vent hose coming from the valve head cover, so where is to be connected that tip of the hose that goes up? or is just a vent hose? so where has to be placed? thanks in advance

    • @goboardcanada6263
      @goboardcanada6263 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luis Aguilar That’s the crankcase breather. On most stock bikes, the breather will connect back to the air box to recirculate the vented gases back into the engine to be burned. On the Honda’s there is a spigot on the LH side of the air box in between the carb and air filter.
      -Cote Motorcycles

    • @luisaguilar7922
      @luisaguilar7922 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goboardcanada6263 thank you, yeah I got that one that goes from the valve cover and after the Y splitter so one tip goes to the air box and the other down and seem to be cancelled by a plug, but the one I can not realize where it goes or connects is the one that comes from the right crankcase above the clutch cover and then it goes to a more like a T splitter then one tip goes down to the ground and the other tip is the one I need to know where it needs to go or connect to. This hose has two 90 degree turns just at the end.
