CONGRATS to our contest winner, @prakaklef. 😏 Anyone. 👋. Tell us if you have a favorite part of the song, or how this song makes you feel? We wanna know your thoughts. ~ Tazzz n Philly ~
Hi. Always love your Courtney reactions. It feels like you're a true believer in Courtney's incredible talent, just like the rest of us. Absolutely terrific song by Courtney and the lyrics are brilliant. It has such a good vibe that you can't listen to it and not to want to move with it. I would call it a jazzy song with a touch of almost 1940's Swing. That's one thing abiut Courtney. With her incredible versatility, you never know what to expect next. Not only is the song fabulous, but the video is a work of art and perfect for the song. It's just my opinion, but I think there are a number of messages here. You were pretty spot on with your take on the primary message. First, Courtney is singing about, among other things, no longer being that 13 year old girl everyone fell in love with on AGT, and which a core group of fans want her to remain, which of course is impossible. Courtney, with her incredible creativity, used that theme to drive the video, in such a unique way. Past/young Courtney sees new/current Courtney in the video and follows her through the closet/looking glass into a whole new world, in this case Wonderland (from Alice in Wonderland). Secondly, for four plus years, the labels have tried to tell Courtney what she should be. Courtney stood her ground and said 'No'. Fortunately for all of us, she did, because no one else makes music like Courtney does. It's only my interpretation, but at the beginning of the video, when someone comes to the door asking her to sign something and she turns them away, this represents the labels, with whom she is done with. Now that the labels are gone, she has released a flood of sensational original music. Lastly, when all the paparazzi come to the door and she turns them away, she is saying that to be able to release the kind of music I love, is more important than the possible fame if I have to sell out to get it. Latest from Courtney world. On April 29th, the New York Pops honored Clive Davis with a huge concert at Carnegie Hall. Everyone who is anyone in music was there. Courtney was invited personally by Clive to open the show. She blew off the roof and the doors and brought the entire audience to their feet at Carnegie in a standing ovation with a rip roaring, stage dominating rendition of Janis Joplin's 'Piece of my Heart'. Janis was Clive's first signee. It was unbelievable. Courtney shared the stage with many all time greats tied to Clive like Barry Manilow, Dionne Warwick, John Mellencamp, Busta Rhymes and many more. The New York Pops released a 2+ minute clip of her performance. It now has over 2.7M views on the Pops site (along with 3.2M on TikTok). By far the most views of any video the New York Pops has released since they started posting in 2014. Too bad they didn't release the whole thing, because Courtney's full performance was spectacular. So far only one other individual performance has been released by the Pops from that concert, and that just a few days ago. Kind of says something about how fabulous they thought it was.
Ed, thanks (again) for all the details about Ms. Courtney's performance at Carnegie Hall. I, like many, I'm sure, am sorry I couldn't be there, and getting your reports from the scene really helps. Greatly appreciated!
I truly appreciate the kind words, Edward. Thank you. 😏. As I say often, I LOVE learning within the comments. Thanks for the great intel. Read it all. It is wondrous that Courtney received her flowers at the Clive invite. Definitely says ALOT about her, for the standing ovation, and so forth. I havent seen it. You explained it all perfectly. ~ Tazzz ~
Thank you, I knew you'd like it! Though Monsters has gotten recognition on some platforms it's broken through on, That Girl Don't Live Here is by far the most popular of Courtney's original songs, with about 1 million and 365 thousand streams on Spotify and 1.7 million views of this video. You hit the nail on the head on so many aspects and touched on so many others I wish I had more time to comment, but I might have a call in a minute I CAN NOT MISS and more of the Courterized will be along soon to fill in the blanks better than I could anyway. Thanks again!
Not to sound all out there and what not, but I think we be constantly changing and growing, as long as we live in the moment. This song, has a lot of meaning for Courtney and also for anyone listening. Partly for her it was about the public fans wanting her to keep being that 13 year old viral sensation as she grew up and also about the music people in business while under contract trying to manipulate her with fallacies and promises that were never kept. All she wanted to do was make music the only way she knew how, which is from the heart. They tried to change her, but she stood her ground. The lyrics suggest she will no longer be taking advantage of and/or gullible. She experience the business and learned they weren't who she thought they were or promised for her. So she wrote a song about both those topics. And jazzed it up with a 40's type jazzy swing tempo mix in with her rockish persona and vocals. She's so damn creative and you know it's something that just happens with her. I think as long as she does things her way, she'll never loose that creative style like so many others seem to. Always something new and different we can expect from Courtney. She just does what she feels at the moment.
Thanks so much for the explanation, Bert. Lol, I was wayyyyyyyyy off, huh? 😏. Yeah, Im happy took charge of her life, and refused to be a proverbial puppet on a string. ~ Tazzz ~
You were not way off. A good song--like all of Courtney's--is open to interpretation, and yours was a good one. Courtney had her own story, but it is relatable to other stories as well.
Strongly recommended! Be prepared to discover just how versatile this young [almost 20 in a few weeks] GenZ singer-songwriter can be. Also, check her Wikipedia entry for fairly accurate bio and career so far. When you get to her AGT audition from 13th season of AGT, when she was just 13, shut your eyes and just LISTEN once the music finally starts. Then go back and watch that performance [Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle"]. You won't believe your ears, nor your eyes. Go back again and watch the audience jump to their feet and start clapping Within 30 seconds or so, she had that whole audience on their feet and laser focused on her. But LISTEN first without watching. You only get ONE CHANCE to experience this performance that way in this life.
@@givingin2G4Courtz Exactly, and do that with all of the new performances you watch the videos of, her voice, and her performances, are truly wonderous to behold. She literally has a singing voice of someone completely different, yet uniquely her.
You can get a good start looking at Tazzz N Philly's Courtney Hadwin playlist. I think this makes 10 reactions. There's some more great stuff on her own channel of course, and there's more on TH-cam from America's Got Talent and The Voice Kids UK.
Thank you, Tazzz N Philly, for reacting to this music video from our favorite Ms. Courtney Hadwin! There's a LOT of information, or at least hints of same, in this music video. Not just in the lyrics. Regardless, however, of her reasons for writing this song, and making this fun yet complex music video to help introduce us to this song, it's also just a fun romp. And the lyrics fit many variations of stories, making the song much more relatable to many more people. IMHO. The way the best songs do. This kid has TALENT! More than just her phenomenal stage presence and that ENERGY that just flashes through a crowd as she shares her passion for a song and uses it to share and help us experience her feelings. I'm more and more impressed with this youngster. I do wish she'd had some of the same advantages that others in her cohort had growing up singing, like Ms. Angelina Jordan and Ms. Daneliya Tuleshova. Both are younger than her (18 and 24 months, respectively), yet all 3 were signed by the time they were 14 or 15 years old. Still, we're going to be seeing a LOT more of all these kids' music in the remainder of this year and likely on for decades. We have a LOT of great music to look forward to experiencing! Ms. Courtney's debut album, with all new songs will be released soon, so keep an ear out for that announcement!
You are welcome. 😏. Happy you were pleased. She definitely is remarkable, and YES, shame she didnt receive the same earlier accolades, as her "cohorts". 😏. ~ Tazzz ~
The algorithm is starting to play up again. I have just found your new reaction to the magnificent Courtney. Here in New Zealand it is Saturday. And ... back to Courtney. Yes, the song is about her growing from the shy school girl, into the confident young woman that she is. The dress that you are referring too in the video is in reference to Alice in Wonderland, the famous story about her finding her identity. And the music is in the Swing style, mixed with Rock, Blues and Funk. And it is really fun to see her personality shine through. The video was shot somewhere in Spain.
Thank YOU. My mouth said Cinderella, but I was thinking, Alice In Wonderland. Lol. Happy I was on right track. Appreciate your overall comment. Yay algorithm, and Yay YOU. ~ Tazzz ~
