thank you for posting this. my father used to listen to this befor he passed. i haven't been able to find it since, you gave me a bit of my dad back for a few minutes, thank you ,amazing what a song can do
I haven't been overseas yet, but I go the first week of January, But while I was at basic and AIT my pocket bible never left my pocket the whole time I was there, Psalms 91 gave me all my strength, and I mark that page with a picture of my grandpa in his class A's, he served 3 tours in 'Nam
i remember this song i used to listen to it all the time when ever i thought of my brother i turned this song on and prayed for him to come home safely and he did. it's been two years now that's he's been home in the u.s. when ever i hear this song i remember my brother and listening to the stories that he told when ever we talked with each other.
@rdp650 I'm an old Veitnam Vet, 4th Inf. Div. 11mos 22days in the jungle. I lose brothers almost everyday it seems, I still cry at times, guess I always will. No man who ever went outside the wire ever came back the same. God Bless the young ones, I wished they would have inherited a diffferent world!!
I'm 81 years old now and I heard this song on radio in the late 1940s. I can't remember who wrote it. It's been a long time. I remember trying to memorize it. I used to sit by a coal oil lamp and listen to Lum and Abner. The song sounds good but it still won't get you to heaven. Believing in Jesus as ones Savior and Son of God is the only way. I'm sorry to hurt people's feelings but that's the gospel truth. If you get Jesus wrong, you will get everything else wrong. I love all of you spiritually.
you have just made me a very happy man young lady...i proudly served 3 tours in vietnam..i am so glad that you were proud of your father as my son is also proud of me...Vets never forget and remember all gave some but some gave all...
To all vets of all wars may God Bless You all each and everyone and may all return home safely to your loved ones. I am a proud Australian and can remember after the news ea night during the Vietnam war there was a roll call of the fallen soldiers who had died that day even as a 6yr old i can remeber the silence and sorrow these broadcasts brought
I have this song, on the one album I have, of Red Sovine's, on cassette-"Phantom 309"--I know that's "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," playing in the background, as Red speaks. Very creative way, to see a deck of playing cards, as a Bible, for example, the way Red's son(who was the soldier in question)claimed he saw each of the numbers, and the three picture cards, as something pertaining to the Bible. I like how Red's son claimed he saw the Queen, as Mother Mary--was he Catholic, I wonder, ever? "And the Jack, or knave, would be the devil." Yes, very creative--just goes to show you, how we really can use our imaginations, in general.
MrJamieMurph4141969 I knew Red's daughter in law in Nashville. We talked once about Red. She agreed, Red was much deeper than a man who wrote truck driving songs.
Sends chills down my back just know that my dad could have been one of them in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Lance Corpral, 2ND Batallion, Infantry divison in the militia. God Bless you dad
i didnt know that about the Vietnam vets, i am proud of everyone who is brave enough to fight for our freedom and what we as americans believe in. i might not agree why we go to war and i might not like war but it is a fact of life we must deal with and i am proud to be an American. and i am proud of our service men and women.
You know that was true story I was over there when a lot of soldiers that's all they had to help them through all the crap that they had to put up with, while a bunch of so called Big wheels sat on there rear and didn't know what was going on at all . Its a sore subject to talk about
GOD bless you and your family bro. Don't feel bad about the time you did over there .it was your time to serve your country .me as a truck driver I do my time praying and asking the good lord GOD almighty to keep me safe. What He did to bring you safe to see you where your at.where were we when He ( Jesuschrist) was disfigured and died for our sins. GOD bless you and be happy we get to live once and enjoy don't grudge
I WILL NEVER LOOK AT A DECK OF CARDS IN THE SAME WAY EVER AGAIN. REMEMBER ALL SCUADIES THAT HAVE EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THIS EARTH WE OWE THEM SO MUCH TO BE WHO WE ARE. FREEDOM COSTS SO MUCH & YET SHOULD BE A FREE RITE FOR ALL
yeah i agree i have the most respect for the men and women fighting for our freedom and protecting us. its the other guys i dont get. they started it (i think, im not big on politics.)
A very healing song for a hurting heart. A song from the past that still has a place in our country. I lost my brother ,a civilian, in Iraq. I have his bible to this day that he read over there and use it as he did. God bless the USA.
When Jim Reeves sings/explains it, he puts it in WWII and does say all the numbers .. including 'when I see the 10, it reminds me of the 10 commandments'. He also says it was in front of the Commander, not the Provos Marshall.

I like this song
Same here.
this was great! i'll bet it sold a million!
A spin-off of the original "Deck of Cards" from Wink Martindale in 1959. Good Job!
Original was done in 1948 by Tex Ritter.
Skip Coughlan yeah I thought this song was originally from before Vietnam
Skip Coughlan Hank Williams recorded it long before then.
You are all wrong ! Here is the original version by "T" Texas Tyler, ! th-cam.com/video/J5kCKII8GZE/w-d-xo.html
AMEN
Love you Papa!

I WILL NEVER LOOK AT A DECK OF CARDS IN THE SAME WAY EVER AGAIN.
REMEMBER ALL SCUADIES THAT HAVE EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THIS EARTH

@dmiller60 Thank Yoy from my heart!
As much as I love Red Sovine, I think Whisperin Bill puts a bit more emotion in it imo

NO war is war and hell is hell. and in my opinion war is worse.
only bad people go to hell but in war men women and even children suffer.
I really like this version... but I think Tex Ritter's is a little better. Thanks been looking for it for years
DON`T PISS ME OFF
yes but one of the aces hase an extra i think not sure but he is right
Why was the 10 card that represents the 10 commandments left out?
When Jim Reeves sings/explains it, he puts it in WWII and does say all the numbers .. including 'when I see the 10, it reminds me of the 10 commandments'. He also says it was in front of the Commander, not the Provos Marshall.
Who's April love
I wonder who will re-do this song and set it in Iraq or Afghanistan. If so,would there be an uproar about proseyletizing in Islamic nations?
everthing its not the look like out fore,,,
4 people lost their deck of cards :(
Physically look at a deck of cards and count the spots. There's not 365 spots on a deck.
our VietNam cards made out of paper so they esily to bend and tear
iknow that was fucked up
god bless all V.VETS. FROM A Marine
