I could relate to the pain mile was going through. It feels like your always been taken for granted so you feel you need to prove yourself on a level where no one will mess with you. Its so thoughtlessly easy to let everything slip from your hands when you've been looking endlessly for a cure for your anxiety or depression. So we chose the easy way out. The way that will temporarily give us what we want in exchange for permanent suffering.
That's why you have to have hope - because just because you 'snap' one time to be free from people violating you, you have a whole life to live - where sooner or later people WILL violate you. People violate us all the time it doesn't make sense to fight every battle, our self-worth shouldn't come from us needing to 'prove' anything, it should come from our connection to everything. People need a lot more love for themselves and the world and it would be a safer, and more peaceful place.
You can say what you want about these people in this film - "They ain't roadman..." and all that, but it literally only takes you to get mad one time and draw for a weapon and stab someone to be in prison for 14+ years. Then when you're in prison, you make friends, the wrong kind of friends. You make bad connections and grow father and further into criminal ways of thinking, so by the time you do come out, you've been institutionalized and now are an actual criminal. So to all the people that may say shit like "They ain't road.." or whatever, if they fuck up, I can guarantee you they will become road! And besides who the fuk in their right mind wants to be "road" anyway? Great, insightful and educational piece here, thanks for creating it!

This is moving. I got involved in that lifestyle when I was younger and made a lot of very bad decisions. The scene when he was in his bedroom, I know that feeling. I remember thinking everyone was tough, that fear was respect, that violence was a solution. But most of the people that act like they are "about that life" are just like his friends. Scared, always looking to tear someone down to make themselves feel better than. None of it was worth it. I'm a convicted felon with gun and drug charges. I spent twelve years learning every lesson the hard way, and I've spent the last four years trying to dig myself out of that hole. Now I help people recovering from drug addiction. I try to be an example of positivity. But none of it was cool. None of it made me badass. What I thought of as a square life when I was young now looks like a dream. Beautiful film.
