Psychic Fever took a more modern approach to city pop and mixing it with r&b. City pop became a dead genre in the 90s when bubblegum pop entered the music scene. City pop was only rediscovered again in 2017, thanks to Mariya Takeuchi’s song “Plastic Love”, after it was recommended by youtube’s algorithm. Since the rediscovery of city pop, musicians have tried to revive the genre. From Korean artists to the Weeknd and Harry Styles, etc. I recommend Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi if you want to get into city pop.
