Hi guys, thanks for all the comments! I forgot to check it out. Receipts: Osterman's Collodion negative is 2gr of CdBr, 5gr KNO3. 220ml of 4% collodion, 140 ether, 140 alcohol. Developer 2gr of FeSO4, 8ml of glacial acid, 8ml of alcohol and 100ml of water Redeveloper: 1) Iodide treatment 1,5ml of iodine tincture into 40 ml of water 2) Pyro developer: 1gr of pyro acid, 6gr of citric acid and 350 ml of water Salt print: Seizing: 15gr of gelatin + 15 gr of ammonium chloride + 1000 ml of water Sensitizer: 15% of AgNO3 + few drops of acid to make between 2pH and 3pH. Gold toner: To make stock solution: 1gr of gold chloride into 155ml of distilled water. Then you take 10ml of stock solution and put it in 700ml of distilled water and add half a small spoon of baking soda, so it becomes 8-9 pH. Fix it with 15% of thiosulfate, freshly made. Don't use old fixer, it will make a print go yellow years later. Wash for half an hour. If you have washaid, even better. Fixir in paper will deteriorate your print years later. Good luck!
ISO is as name suggests, a standard. Wet plate collodion process was practiced before standards were introduced and even nowadays does not fit in any standard. ISO is simply a reference with today's wetplaters, but the sensitivity changes depending on the age of collodion, mixture of collodion, pH of silvernitrate and the spectrum of the light. In the case of this vlog it was green light, with almost no UV and pH was way too low (beginner's mistake), so exposure was very long. To answer your question, a photographer makes a guess, take a plate and then on the result corrects the exposure.

Those Vageeswari cameras are great. I have several, more actually, went a little over the top so to teach workshops. Dry plate is my thing, Liquid light is used. Never got as far as making my own emulsion yet. I also attended classes at the Rochester Inst.

Wow, 15 min exp time, and 5 min in bath thats very interesting. I`ve never even thought of trying that for density but i will. I have same Vageeswari 10 X 12. Very interesting and informative video. I own two Kodak 3A 1910 cameras that can use glass plate, cut paper, and of no longer made roll film, but will work with 120. Where do you get your glass plates?
Amazing! I just started learning Darkroom photography as part of my studio elective and was curious on the Wet Plate Collodion technique. I've been shooting digital for most of my works, so currently I am re-learning to shoot the analog way. This is by far the most simplest way of understanding the whole collodion and salt print process. Thank you for sharing. Cheers from Singapore!
There are different developers and totally different concept between ambrotype and wet plate collodion negative. For ambrotype it's between 15 and 20 seconds - usually.
Amazing video Borut, thanks for sharing!! I wanted to ask you about the Beeswax, is it filtered, or pure beeswax?? I need to wax some cyanotypes that i did, and when i tried with pure beeswax and lavender oil, well, it turned out ok, but not as smooth as i was expecting.. I would be very greatful if you can help me with advice about it. :) Milosh
Milosh Mitich I don't know what to add. Heat up beeswax, add oil, mix it, cool it down, add more oil until is creamy. It comes with experience, so just make few more prints and it'll get better.

Using the plexiglass support under the print, is an excellent way to remove the shadows cast by the tray. A quality improvement!

hm... I know some tricks of putting a wet towel over a camera, but in this case I haven't used any of it. It came out as you see it.

I use Fabriano F5 paper, that's 50% of cotton. 100% cotton papers don't do well with salt printing I've experienced.

Oh, my silverbath was very acidic! Like 2.2pH, so that's why it took so long time!
