Thank you for an explanation of what happens to me a couple times during an 18 hole. I can feel my iron twist when I hit the ball and it heads to the right. I couldn’t figure out how to adjust. Your vid’s are great!
Excellent advice! A lot of Seniors I play with the bottom of the club is level to the ground. I check that my arms are extended down and that pushes the toe up.
this was initial problem with irons. I'd put the sole flat on setup. getting that slight toe up gives a cleaner strike, and corrects the natural fade the arc of the swing imparts.
it’s pretty simple, go get fitted! I did and I have natural draw but stock clubs are toe up for my impact. This resulted in a 10-12 yard draw, sometimes more! Once I got fitted, 2* flat lie I had a more controllable “baby draw” with a 2-4 yard draw and scored better!
I figured out I was coming in all stiff and vertical with my Driver about 6 weeks ago. Was able to make some corrections and improve my slice. With this video I may be able to improve more. I Wish Someone Had Told Me This About MY CLUB POSITION YEARS AGO!!!! :)
Good tip Alex! If you are losing it right point the toe up! Too, I make sure my face is open and flat at address, so that when I strike it, it will be square, it works for me. I work on this on the range!😊
I actually always lower my hands at address, i always found i had better contact doing this, i had no idea why i was doing it though or why the need to!
Hey Alex, could you maybe explain and create a video of what divots can tell you about a swing? What should a good divot look like? I often leave a divot that is thin and cuts the turf on the toe side. I definitely know what a chunky divot means. Thank you.
I've always believed the lie angle at the point of impact can be significantly different than your lie angle at address, depending on your swing shape, approach angle, shaft flex, etc. It can also change from swing to swing if trying to hit a draw or fade. I have swung standard, flat, and upright lie angles with various shaft flexes to find what provides the best ball flight. You may also find that a certain lie angle could be different within the same set of irons, such as short irons from longer irons. Good video! Thank you!
Hi Alex, great advice as always. I have aimed left for years to compensate, I will try the toe up slightly at address and see how I get on. My Achilles heel is down hill slopes and up hill slopes, I am guaranteed to loose 1/2 strokes a round because of this, have you any advice please.
In your driver video you taught that we should ground the club 6 inches or so behind the ball and address it off the toe. Does that also apply to fairway woods and hybrids? Also should we address the irons in the center of the clubface? Just watched your toe-up iron video. I have been playing for 60 years and am getting some good stuff from your videos. I'm 86 years old and regularly shoot in the high 70's and low 80's. Thanks.
Excellent advice. I was never really aware of toe drop and its impact on ball flight and compression. Does this advice hold true throughout the entire bag? Is toe drop consistent throughout the bag?
Alex, I take a divot with my irons but how do i keep from taking really deep divots? Also, how do you hit a 100 yd shot consistently? All your videos have helped me tremendously and I’m down to a 5 handicap.
Great tip Alex, a few years ago for no discernible reason I started to shank my irons, it would start off mid round and like a virus just got worse every shot. The problem was I was used to getting around in par or better and after a few months of this and many DNR’s I was on the verge of giving the game up as my confidence was gone and I was afraid to hit any type of iron shot until my local pro advised me to drop my hands a bit and honestly I’ve never looked back.🏌️
I think you said when chipping you should raise the heel and keep the toe down. Would this cause the ball to go to the right, so you should aim to the left?
Alex maybe too simple of a question but when you setup and swing do you focus on the ball throughout the swing or an area around the ball. Had lessons one time and the pro said see the ball see the ball. I seem to focus on the area which maybe a problem. What’s your take.
Yeah i would say the ball, but also it depends on the club so if you are wanting to hit the ball then turf with irons, look to be contacting the ground in that area - if that makes sense? And it’s not simple at all, golf is hard so cut yourself some slack 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
How do I add height to my iron shots? I have identified my iron distances but they always roll out because I can’t get them high enough to “drop” my shots on the greens.
when i do this i find it hard to keep the toe up but lean my hands forward at setup , which is what i need to do to help hit down on the ball ect HELL ?
Ok so I am 58 and have bad hips. When I try and take the club back further, I create too much cupping in my left wrist and get a lot of shanks "I hope I didn't swear" with this word on a golf commentary. When I start toe up like this I do it even more. How do I stop that?
Alex, I have totally the opposite problem to most of your videos, I'm a right handed golfer yet my irons shoot left almost a hook at times. Every club from a PW to 6I. Most players would love this shot but I miss left farr too much, how do I fix this? Maybe 20% of my overall distance, so my 6iron is maybe 40yds left. My driver and Woods are fine with a slight draw
I had the same problem and was resolved in a lesson I had today, for me it was because my grip was too strong, I had a go on a grip training aid club thing to get a feel for how my grip should actually be and the coach took pictures of before and after which are uploaded onto skillest, every now and then u gotta go back to basics I suppose.
I have a question for you again Alex... I have always pitched with no wrist action and have found it hard to strike the ground in the same place each time. I just tried pitching with my wrists and started finding the ground much more consistently. Is there anything wrong with pitching with almost all wrist action? It seems to work for me
The force of the downswing causes the shaft to bow (bend). …this bow is away from the players body (when at the impact point of the golf ball) whereby pushing the toe of the club-head towards the ground (creating truly square at impact). Hence, a proper ‘lie’ in club fitting will be the toe of the club-head slightly above the surface when player is gripping at address. No disrespect- no amateur, playing a handful times per year, would even notice or have dramatic change in their score due to ‘lie’ of the club.
Hi Alex, nice tip there. At address (I.e. setup), being a right-handed golfer, should the butt of the club handle point to my belly button or my left kidney?
How do you improve your striking for a shot with a down hill lie ....that is the slope is running from behind the ball to Infront of the ball ..... Both long shots and chipping
😊 I will try this. It could explain the shots to the right. You might have covered reading a green but I would love your ideas thank you for your helpful videos😊😊

What a load of nonsense you’re talking about get yourself on a splash board and get your clubs bent (lie angle) to fit you not change the way you get into address position playing with the club up or down you think pro’s do this 🤔
@@AlexElliottGolf I use to be 5-6 handicap before then I switched to 1 length clubs got them built for me he told me I expect you to drop 2-3 off your handicap in 3 years I now play off 0.5…every club has a tolerance of 2-3 degrees as in lie and loft angle there was only 1 club that didn’t have to be bent that was the 9 iron every other club had to be bent lie and loft so what you’re saying is defeating the object but that’s my opinion…no hard feelings bro you got interesting things I like to watch but just disagree on this 1

Great video - this is why it is so important to get custom fitted to ensure the clubs are the correct lie angle for you.
