The Archtop Foundation was set up in 2021 with a mission to raise awareness of the wonders of the acoustic archtop guitar - it occurred to us that one effective way to do this was to acquire the Chinery Blue Guitar Collection and put it in the hands of the world's finest musicians and guitar makers. In this video filmed in May 2022 we visit superstar luthier ‪@GreenfieldGuitars‬ in his Montreal workshop and give him a moment with the D'Aquisto Blue Centura that started it all theblueguitars... We sincerely hope you enjoy it!

A real treat to see a fantastic builder evaluate the work of another master luthier/pioneer. This instrument is a true "game changer" and a piece of history.

A unique, master crafted instrument, lovingly critiqued by a unique, master craftsman. Does it get any better than this?

The adjustable tail piece was invented by my father in the early seventies.

The adjustable wedge bridge was not taken or even influenced by any other bridge in the history of guitars that is a exclusive invention of my father's and I still own the original blueprint for it

I have Bernie Lehmann's virtually exact clone of this guitar (the headstock does not have the inlayed thin white stripes like Jimmy's, and Cris Miraibella made a D'Acquisto ebony wedge slider bridge for it). It's not only gorgeous, but it sounds and plays gorgeously as well. Benie used all of the same kinds of richly and beautifully grained tone woods and fashioned a masterpiece guitar from them based upon Jimmy's masterpiece.
It has a water-based final clear-coat, so it has not "greened" like the original has. It still looks like a clear, pure blue lake that you feel you could dive into and not want to even come up..
It's a fitting and respectful tribute to Jimmy who I think would have been flattered and would have appreciated Bernie's talent.

What are your thoughts on Ken Parker's Archtops?

    • @theblueguitars

Ken is a genius, and his guitars stand up to these great guitars. Not only are we reviving the Blue Collection and taking it on the road, we are also commissioning new works (albeit with slightly different, more modernized specs) from great modern makers who were not included in the original collection. A panel of current Blue Luthiers gets to choose every year 1-2 new luthiers to add to the family. Ken was the first and unanimous choice.
