I don't give a fuck what any hardcore BM fan says Der Weg Einer Freiheit is most definitely one of the best BM bands to come around. Literally everything they released is fucking amazing.
I am absolutely NO Black Metal fan but this "Post-Black-Metal" (or whatever it is called...) is amazing... Deafhaven, Der Weg einer Freiheit, Altar of Plagues... and so on...
a little over two years after getting into this band and now they are 110% my #1 favourite band and this has to be my favourite song of all time. calling "just" a song is doing it injustice, this is an experience, an absolute fucking masterpiece, every single second is just perfect. i really hope that I can one day witness them play this live, saw them twice so far and I know that it could be life changing. getting to know their music already was for me, on top I even got lucky enough to talk to their vocalist Nikita on one occasion and he's such a nice and humble guy, i will treasure this memory until I die. generally seeing them in that small basement club the first time I was at a show from them was just pure magic... I am getting derailed writing this, but there are so many emotions and thoughts attached to Der Weg Einer Freiheit and this song for me that I can never leave it at just one sentence. truly, truly special, they mean so damn much to me, even got their sigil as a tattoo
I recently read an article where Matt Heafy of Trivium told his favorite albums of 2017, Finisterre being one of them. I'd been craving for a type of riff that's used prominently in black metal(I guess it's called a tremolo). I'm glad to say I got more than I bargained for and so my black metal cherry has been popped by Der Weg Einer Freiheit. This is my favorite track off of this album, the others are beautiful as well.
As I told them, this is their best track on the album, just so brutal and raw. Makes my thick hair on my arms stand up and my spine shiver. Top track followed by the title track. My hats off to you DWEF, a loyal fan from America who plays this album from start to finish everyday I have to go out.

This is one of a very small group of modern black metal records that can stand with the best of the 90’s. Whole album amazing but this is the standout track
Damn, this is good. Feels like Romantic Period Symphonic Music to me, the way it's composed. It's like art music instead of jammy music. really fucking well done.
