This is my favorite song by U2.. I had the cassette back in the 80's and played it over and over and over.. it sat in my stereo cassette player and never moved for about 3 years and then I went to Ireland and did a tour of Southern Ireland and played this the whole time and I could not believe just how absolutely wonderful and special this song is especially travelling around Ireland. Completely magical. I love U2 and they are my all time favorite !!
Brilliance, U2 in this era were godly. Eno and Lanois were a major part of that. The 80s post punk movement is what has been evergreen... bands like U2, Chameleons, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banchees, Comsat Angels, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Cure and on and on. What you think of the 80s is the cheap pop stuff that made the charts. U2 were outliers in that they were unique, cool and happened to cut through and make hit songs on the charts that catapulted them to superstardom.
I love this song and this album. At 14 I was living in a hostel with a bunch of other lads and we'd listen to this endlessly - it brings me comfort and makes me smile and think of good times amongst the bad. Music brought us together and helped us through tough times and this....will always be one of my favourite ever songs.
yes, this was their most "fashiony" song in the 80s. if you didnt know about u2, theres a vasssst iceberg under the water waiting for you. great reaction!! i love the way you listen all the way though no breaks
I haven't heard this in a long while. Wow, it takes me back. Just as mesmerizing today as it was when I first heard it. Thanks for looking into U2. They are still and always astonishingly good and talented. You'll be amazed at the hidden gems you'll find. This just made my day. Wonderful. :)
As far as the 80's go, The Police, The Clash, U2, Talk Talk, The Cure, Eurythmics, OMD and so many more... The 80's had some garbage but some absolute brilliance!
You will never hear music like this anymore it was EPIC stands the test of time for future generations, Boy George once said you will never experience another decade like the 80s SOO TRUE.
I LOVE 80'S U2, I LIKE SOME 80'S MUSIC, I WAS RAISING BABIES AT THE TIME. MTV WAS CONSTANTLY ON, MUSIC GOT ME THROUGH LIFE. MY KIDS WERE AROUND MUSIC ALL THE TIME. SORRY IM RAMBLING. I WASN'T AN 80'S FAN EITHER BUT NOW IM OLDER I APPRECIATE IT. AWESOME REACTION RORY 💙 THANK YOU ZENNOFOBIC FOR THESE AWESOME U2 REQUESTS. JOSHUA TREE AND RATTLE AND HUM WERE MY FAVORITE U2 ALBUMS. 😊💓🔥🤘✌️IM REALLY ENJOYING THESE!
In my view, the album I's most likely to be stuck with if I had to choose ......Bono's voice begans to drift in to other vocal spaces...............Larry's drumming is rythmic and driving........nobody plays like Larry Mullen JR.........Adam keeps it all tight and pulsating........Edge well, Edge is ther Edge .. AMAZING
Listening to this today, I can see where the fan split - or the first fractionation of fans - happened here. In 84 (OMG 40 years ago!!!!) I'd only had the War album and played Under a Blood Red Sky (Live at Red Rocks) a TON. So it didn't bother me much that THIS sound on Unforgettable Fire is VERY lush - as opposed to their first 3 albums, very stripped down, no frills sound. But - there is STILL a romantic side (not in the boy meets girl sense but more of an idealistic/spiritual one) that for me is a through line from War to this album. Possibly, fans that had exposure to three albums prior to this one - felt it was too much of a 180.
really I didn't know fans opposed this sound this album I worked my way backwards from Joshua Tree this is my all time favorite album of theirs and I agree wholeheartedly with you about the romantic spiritual qualities of this song, my 2nd favorite is Gloria that embodies the same
@@Zennofobic Agreed. But there were lots of fans (though not all) from the first 3 albums that said they'd sold out. I don't agree - at least not yet in their career. The other thing those fans were intuiting was that this band was going to be launched into superstardom and areas where before they'd been more accessible. You knew from one listen to this album where they were headed. - international success. They weren't "indy" anymore. ;)
Oh it sounds very 80's because it was released in 1984, I've read the lyrics and are a little confusing in my opinion. In the 80's there were many excellent bands specially British, such as: Tears for fears, Talk Talk, simple minds, Simply red, The Police, Depeche mode and many more thanks and greetings from Asturias, Spain👍🌹
Bad is the song I think I'd want played at my funeral. I can't believe I'm even writing that.. yikes. Incredibly powerful song. Tha only thing that sounds 80s in this song are those sound effects that sound like strikes of lightening in the break. It does sound very 80s in that part.
@@LydellC YES!!! I was standing in a field in upstate NY that day - 15 yrs old and listening on a shitty transistor radio - Bad reached right through and held you. A religious experience.
One of the greatest songs ever written, pure poetry.

This track deserves far more reactions, it's truly epic

Thanks Lydia. A monumental album for me, only to be bested by the Joshua Tree. Bono's lyrics are a lesson in the artform..
This one's from @Zennofobic. But it would've been added to my request list sooner or later 😊
@LydellC thanks and thanks Zenno as well! Cheers LydellC

2000s Coldplay reminds me a lot of U2, you can hear how U2 influenced them.

sweet! just got back for dinner time to relax... this is my go to karaoke song 😋
Wow, that's a technical stretch for karaoke! Respect.
@@aldo34 my go-to secrete weapon on a date :) take em to a U2 at the karaoke bar and maybe some Roxy Music in private later back at my place hahaha
This song?!? I'm impressed and skeptical at the same time! But good on you.
You can hear Eno's influence on this. Great vocal perfomance too.
I LOVE THE 60'S AND 70'S AND 90'S WERE MY FAVORITE MUSIC YEARS!! 😊💓🤘✌️
I LOVE THE DRUMS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BUT NOW FOR MANY YEARS I LOVE GUITAR 🎸 🔥🔥🔥
Ok mate, now take it to early post punk U2.. “An Cat Dubh” studio version.. crank it!
I bought this album in 84 and they were so fucking mysterious lyrics wise you never saw them etc… proper Gods
Love UF

👍 I've got Bad from Live Aid in my U2 request list. (Poor Rory is drowning in requests...from me alone 🙄😄)
