  • New year, new gear!
On request here is my list of gear that I will ride in 2024.
Sp many newgarments on the market every year it's a jungle to navigate. I tend to stick to what I know and perhaps it can shed some light on products that you have been curious about.
Some of the gear in this video I ordered, but was not charged for. You can call this "sponsoring" but the initiative is on my side and there are no contracts or commitments attached. I show what I like to wear and why.

I've got Tech 7 in drystar and regular. On a long trip, even if it rains, I'll take the regular boots with waterproof socks. One deep water crossing in drystar boots = wet and stinking boots for days. Shorter trips and day rides in the wet, drystar Tech 7s are brilliant.

@11:02 I have a keis heated jacket and the best advise I can give you, is to either make yourself a spiral cord cable or see if a 3rd party one (smth like the gerbing optional accessory spiral cord thingy) fits the mosko jacket. You'll probably have to cut some bits on the bike harness part if you go DYI but, if you pick the proper spiral cord wire, it will give you at least 3X extension length allowing you to stand up, not rip anything if you forget to disconnect before dismounting. Personally I chose the DYI route and I picked a cable that has 30 cm in "rest" mode and extends to 1.2 meters without pulling on me. I honestly don't understand why these jackets don't come by default with a spiral cord cable.

A lot of new and great gear Tjommi, let's bring on the -24 now! I had a day (in this otherwise a tad too wintery weather) recently to try out some new gear as well. Look forward to newa dventures, but first, let us have some 🍺🍺🍺 at the Swedish MC Show Fair in Stockholm. I will be seen in one of the gear stands! See You there and Happy Trails 💪🤠🔥.

You sure do have a lot of gear. 🙂
I recently made an ultralight heated vest from two car seat heaters. It plugs into the SAE connector on my baby GS bike and the 50 watts kept me toasty warm when riding to the Hoosier National Forest to camp in December.

Have the alpinestars tech 7 drystar for 3 years now. I've been to albania with +38 Celsius, was walking through shallow rivers and the boots was perfect. Stayed dry even in those conditions. When it's cold outside like 3-4 Celsius was cozy and warm inside. Next year I plan on going Swedish TET so good luck guys and see you there 😉

I live in the Black Forest. I also have the same problem with my fingers despite the heated grips.
Since this winter I've been riding the FIVE WFX CITY EVO SHORT GTX to work every day.
For the first time I don't have cold fingers. The long version will also be available in the spring.

For my touring gear. I use layers too. I have a fully armored mesh jacket with a removal water and wind proof liner. I only wear the liner against cold. If it is raining or really cold I put a rain jacket over the mesh jacket. Under garments are a T-shirt and sometimes a long sleeve shirt for warmth. The inner liner of the mesh jacket is cold when wet which is why I use a rain jacket over the mesh. This creates a warm pocket of air between the cold wet rain jacket and the inner clothing.
For the legs I just have armored blue jeans with protection. If it is a bad rain day I pull on some rain pants over the blue jeans. I wanted mesh pants too as the jeans are warm on a really hot day. I haven't found a good pair of mesh jeans with a removal inner liner, still looking.
For gloves I have summer gloves and rain gloves. The rain gloves are thinly insulated. I supplement those with heated grips. I am thinking about getting rain gloves with heat only on the non palm side of the gloves. The back of the hands are a little cool even with wind deflectors.
Boots are just waterproof boots that I can comfortably walk in.

    I enjoyed this one Robert.
It was fun to see the revolution race stuff. They are easy remembered for their really really poor advertisements. They have so poor actors it’s really a joke, but then when you start looking at their gear it’s usually pretty good stuff. Well, it should be, although not Skaraborgian, it is West Gothian design. I salute that.
Personally I’ve gone for a mixture of Cycle gears own brands with a Jacket from Revit and Helmet from Schubert. I had not finalized my viewing of the latest TET clip yet but this popped up so had to view it.

Heated gloves are fantastic though a little bulky. I ran Gerber gloves which lasted many 10s of thousands of kilometres.
If you prefer the option of wearing a thinner glove then any old enduro handle bar muffs really complement heated grips. Just make sure your confident your hand wont get trapped if you have a spill.
Little wrist/thumb sleeves also make a huge difference. The houdini ones are awesome but so is cutting up a wool sock.
      Cheers

Hi Robert, if one of your fingers gets cold (usually the thumb or little finger) your winter gloves are probably too tight or don't have the right fit! Just a small fix and you would be able to ride in winter without cold hands 👌🏻

    • @3CODKing
      @3CODKing 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

if hes anything like me it doesnt matter the type of gloves you wear, they always get cold, normally to mitigate this i usually have to wear a liner at minimum, even then my hands still get cold.

Hi Robert, thanks for the funny catwalk style video 🤣. I am an onion guy too, especially off road. The AS stuff works fine so far. Think I will try the rain jacket for trips.
However in cold wet condition I use laminated gore tex jacket from Stadler. Thats the top notch gear IMHO considering the key aspects of MC Gear - and yes that stuff is fckn expensive - but worth the cost.
Got the TEC 7 drystar boots. Very comfy and protective BUT NOT waterproof. Disappounting. They can handle wer street, a short rain but you will get wet feet when its raining - wet boots for days is a nightmare on a camping trip. I would not buy the drystar version again.
Keep it upright - thanks for sharing - cheers

I have a light Macna heated vest, which can be adjusted with an app. There is a possibility to connect heated gloves to the vest, which should solve the cold pinky syndrome I think. No personal experience, but the advantage is that you can keep the heat on in the rain without having your gloves transport water towards your hands which is what can happen with heated grips.

Interesting vid Robert. Lot of transitional gear which is needed. The heated jacket is trick, a set of matching pants would be good too. Frey Daytona boots, top quality but not as dirt bike looking. Oxford heated grips and maybe Gerbings heated gloves, there are other makes available. The little heat packs in the back of a double layer BMW or Held gloves works great. I'm big on Held, top shelf. In a few weeks it will be riding season. A lot of possibilities exist then. One must be very careful and expect the unexpected. Cars don't expect you on the road and the sun is low on the horizon. Hope you are having a great holiday season. Gloves...years ago I rode in -7 degrees celcius...lots of windchill at 90km/h and truth is that my regular leather gloves with a thin thermaltake layer of fleece was warmer than my motorcycle goretex gloves. Reason, leather blocked off the wind better than fabrics.

Happy new year mate. So gloves, nothing worse than cold fingers. So in a similar way to AS and their adventure gear for bikes ethos I can recommend a thin silk inner glove and then any of your gloves over the top. Sized correctly you won’t loose the use use of any fingers and the hood thing bout silk is it sets quick and they are small to pack. Ride safe

Best sentence "...but the bike is okay" :)
I have experience now 30k km with the tech7 drystar. The main problem with that is too hot even if it's just 15c outside and this cause that my feet gets wet and feels like it's water inside however just the socks get wet. Not comfortable at all, also this is not really keeps the water away. 1-2hour maximum in rainy weather, not more and to make it dry it takes more time.
Regarding the helmet, nexx xwed3 coming soon, I've tried in Milano motoroshow, and they changed everything what was wrong with the wed2 (sungvisor now gets down fully, the screws on the helmet changed also the small piece which fix the visor changed to screw instead the shitty piece which always brokes).

One more nice video, no doubts about it! i think you just missed one point...the price of your gear. Mosko Moto and Adventure Specs are not for the average ( i mean..$$$ ) rider. Their gear is very expensive altought regarding Mosko Moto, top end quality ( never tried Adv Specs ). Whenever presenting gear, it would be interesting to add it´s value. I do have to wonder with this setup, how well will this hold up in terms of abbresion. Especially the upper body does not seem to be really protected for this. Yes, offroad this would protect you quite well. However, in a crash on asfalt it does not look that safe to me. Even though you might want to ride offroad, you'll still ride asfalt and maybe even highway. You'll want some decent protection for sliding on asfalt.
I do think it is better to have to protection directly on your body as you do. Less chance of it sliding to the wrong places when crashing. Have noticed that it is way too easy to have the protection too loose. Which can result in burn wounds (protection vibrating on the skin) or of course the procection not being where it's needed.
I think the better solution would be your protection 'base layer' with a real rated suit on top. And you should not really be riding without it.
I really like the chest bag, I'll have a look if I can recreate that somehow onto my Revit Barren (Kriega system) backpag. Indeed much prefered over a tankbag. Though I would want it to be waterproof.

Thanks for this entertaining and interesting overview ;-) I am going to try out this year this set of different layers for my first time. Usually wearing one of these general all-in-on ADV jackets.
But only one issue with the set of layers concept: When wearing e.g. the knox protection jacket, a warm mid layer above and a waterproof outershell like AS Single track or Mosko Moto Basilisk, what happen on german highways with wind buffeting of the gear?
So usually having the first and the last day of a weekly trip riding long distances on german highways with 130-180 km/h to come close to mediterranean or scandinavia area. On this distances the weather changes a lot especially, windy and wet. In the presentation or commercial videos of those jackets (e.g. AS single track) one could only see riders going with max 120 km/h? through dirt or gravel roads.
    Appreciate your recommendation. Hejda

Hi Robert, nice information. I understand your layering principle and the harness. It is a very good solution for the dry and warm periods offroad. In Holland we have have more than 6 months (from autum to spring) a mostly change on wet and colder weather. In this period i use my goretex laminated jacket. Good protection / warm and waterproof. Only a base layer (merino wool) is sufficient. Or i choose to remove the innerlining and use a midlayer. Isnt this a option for Sweden? What are the other Nomads wearing ?

wont drystar boots be worse in dry weather and wont dry as fast? went for non membrane boots for that reason, as merino will keep me warm even wet. im thinking about using my non membrane sg12 for offroad as you can get wet with membrane boots if you fall in a puddle or crossing a river and its a pita to dry membrane boots, but add some more comfortable boots with membrane, like revit pioneer/discovery for touring/town runs.
Really like your setup, layering vs all included is cost and versatility vs convenience, its more convenient just to throw on armored jacket than to layer armor when you need to do a short run to town, that knox jacket seems to solve the issue, for lower part its harder to add or take off something so i might go for all included option as i havent found comfortable standalone kee guards, suspenders i think is a must, especially for fatter guys, much more comfortable than relying on belt that tend to dig in your sides with heavy pants.
