Prey Veng Province was well-known for deep fried sparrows - Chab Chean way back in the 1960s. Also, we usually ate deep fried tarantula - Aping when we took a train from Phnom Penh to Kampot way back to the 1960s. During Pol Pot, I had to eat everything like rice field rats, grass hoppers, snakes, and anything I could find. Most of my family members did not survive during the horrific genocide from 1975 to 1979. We were sent from Phom Penh to Pursat Province and most of them died from starvation and overworked.
