    Nifty idea. I do wonder what the purpose is of the 4:1 Balun. From having run a Tarheel Screwdriver antenna for years myself there is a need for Feed Point Impedance Matching on 40 and 80 meters. I'm guess that is somehow the reason for the Balun.

    • @edwhitney1862
      @edwhitney1862  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dennis. It seems to match somewhat easier and provides a clean feedpoint. It certainly would probably work without it. -Ed W8EDW

    People will stay away from your radials for fear of being electrocuted, not because they're yellow.

    This is an excellent mechanical installation, but this Don Johnson screwdriver already has built in impedance matching coil and 4:1 balun is not needed,
    but choke balun instead. To get 50 Ohm impedance, the coil has to be tuned by making a jumper between ground and the coil.
    With the SWR analyzer determine how many turns should be shortened to get 50 Ohm. With the proper installation you will not need a tuner to operate the radio. Vertical antenna has about 30 Ohm impedance and with 4:1 balun will be much lower and you will not be able to user your radio without a tuner.

    • @edwhitney1862
      @edwhitney1862  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ned! Since the Balun makes a nice connection for the coax I’ll short the balun coil and give it try that way. -Ed
