We had a 4 stall Surge system in late 50’s on. Real similar to yours, our Harvestore for high moisture corn was close enough that it was run up above in bins and gave the cows their rations by small electric motors. They got their daily corn while milking, not in the silage in the bunk. Same pull rope method for in and out. Worked well, local schools brought classes thru for field trips. Still miss milking. Great video, thx for the memory trip....
first time ive seen a milking parlor like this, as a dairy farmer myself i find it very interesting to see what others are doing out in the world. thanks for the video!
Greetings from Ireland . Absolutely love this parlour. There's something wonderfully innovative, simple + historic about the parlour. Really hope there's a long, long time future in these family , homestead farms in the States + indeed throughout the developed world. Sincerest thanks for putting this online !
Really enjoyed watching!! Love to see you working in this parlor! So calm and easy going, taking your time milking the ladies! That's one thing I miss about our old barn when we milked fewer than 100 cows, now I have to keep going to get 270 cows through the parlor.. Excited to see more videos!
Great video. I enjoy watching your milking operation and the way you explain everything. Very nice operation and cows are very calm. You guys have done well with them. Keep up the great work so we all can enjoy our milk products!!! Thank you!!
15:38 “There not as dumb as people think” Love this guy!! He has so much respect for the cows! Keep it up! Got a new sub from me that for sure I support this fully
At the dairy I grew up in as a teenager, we had six cows on one side of the pit milking all at once while we were getting the six on the other side of the pit ready. Thank you for the memories.
Grew up on a flat barn six cows three strap belt milkers. Then to a double 5 herringbone three times a day. 265 cows milked 6/2/10 were the times took about 6 hrs to milk then clean up and start over. Those days are gone. Enjoy the vids Kip God Bless.
Farming With Kip Siegler Not in my area at the time. All the dairy’s but a handful exist anymore here. There’s a lot of 3k to 10k in my area west of me. New dairy starting East of me 45 minutes outta Minnesota will be miking upwards of 3k I hear. Miss it but just farm now. To many chiefs and not enough Indians in my family and to greedy. Glad that you boys keep things going. Check out Andy at FarmingFixingand Fabricating outta Syracuse New York consider him a friend they milk approximately 1700 family operation great people.👍
Great video. Close friend has a similar setup. He has about 150 milkers. Takes a while to get them done. Dairy farmers got my respect. Everyone should see this video. It’s a a lot of work to dunk an Oreo.
I think the parlor is great, your cows look very nice. I used to milk in a six stanchion barn. Milking cows was my favorite job, walk across the back yard and I was at work.
That's a nice setup theres nothing wrong with the old way of doing things you don't need computers to milk cows like most modern dairy farms. I'd rather keep it simple less to go wrong. GREAT VIDEO my kids loved it they realy like cows.thanks for the videos
The unappreciated dairy farmer up and at em 7 days a week twice a day 365 days a year. Selling milk for the same price as they did in the sixties. No adjustment for inflation or the massively increased price of farm equipment, feed inputs. To have the desire to do this everyday is all heart....hats off to the American dairy farmer hope you can strive on..
Thank you for sharing the milking cows 🐄. I sure miss my cows quite in 2015 . Tie stall barn was thinking about a parlor before I quit. Easyier on the body as you age . Good luck into the future who knows where the dairy farmer is going
My aunt/uncle had 4 stall DeLaval in the early 60's similar 2 U, simple & efficient. Luv how cows stick the head out 4 more food. I bet U have cows that only want 2 B milked in certain spots. Thanks 4 the tour. 👍😊..
They had a modern one of these where I went to collage it milked 12. 6 down each side. Really nice parlour to work in I loved it they used to put about 180 through it. It wasn’t the fastest but it was enjoyable.
most people don't realize how demanding just the milking part of a dairy farm is. Great video of the milking process. You dont just milk the heard and wait till evening to milk again..lots of clean up and maintenance goes into a parlor . Have you ever been on Farming Fixing and Fabrications channel ? he is in upstate NY .has a pretty big operation. How many cows do you guys Milk? You have a nice family operation there!
My favorite video yet. I always liked milking over field work. You already answered one question of the paper now what about the steps with no gate were the cows come in? Any come down the steps and join you for milking?
Making do with what you have is a noble endeavor !!! They don't pay extra for grade A just because it comes from a fancier parlor do they ?Read other comments that they'd quit before they'd milk like that , that'd make more room for you and you could improve if you choose to or you took take a profit and enjoy yourself ! After watching some of your machinery videos it is pretty cool to see where the crop side meets the end use so to speak . We have a farm that has a three stall parlor like this , I never actually milked but we had a guy that did it on shares for a while in early 80's been sitting idle for 30 years ! I sold and delivered a lot of hay to some dairies in southern Wisconsin early 90's always thought it was kind of a romantic life style but a lot of everyday work , for sometimes low pay ! Thanks for the lol inside what your business is really all about !
You are exactly right, dad never upgraded completely because he didn’t know if we were coming back to the farm. When we took over we realized the parlor is more than sufficient! By you seeing other videos and all our big green equipment that’s what payed for it all..the cows and this parlor. Any one that thinks they’re to good for this parlor doesn’t have clue on how farms and life really work. Thanks for commenting!
Greetings from Marlette Michigan!!!Individual stalls right on! We didn't have the cut away in the back of the stall did you guys modify them?We had a electric door opener that got ripped off at times! We also fed dry corn with protein with auger system to an outside bin! Ours was double 4 but we had the orange gates from the seventies! Same thing though! We loved the individual stalls for vaccines or AI or whatever we needed to do!
If it works for your operation, then good . Why update and have that debt with the milk prices where they are. What time do you milk the cows every day ? My Uncle used to milk in a 14 cow stantion barn, carry milk to the tank I remember milking cows my self when he got sick years ago in the 80's.
Yes sir, milk 5am and 4 in the afternoon is second shift

I worked in a double 8 that used to have the boumatic milking machines but they werent functioning when I worked there. It was all manual. But had the spray system for Udderdyne. I kinda miss it but hated the 2:30 am start time
Good video, thanks. Sometime will you explain how often a tanker comes to empty the milk tank (once a day, every other day, etc.). And, is it a co-op tanker dairy operation?
I see you use IBA products. I use the ICON 10000 pre dip and the Genesis barrier dip for post which is run through a foamer. I have had very good luck with it keeping the cell count down and rarely any flare ups. I think you have a pretty efficient routine for a parlor that old. Nothing wrong with that!
Is that a surge auto flow parlor? I work for a GEA surge dealer here in Lancaster PA. Heard about parlors like use have but never seen one in person. Pretty cool!
Hello! Just stumbled across your channel. We’re building a small dairy barn and are actually putting in refurbished Surge side-opener stalls! Haha! We also plan on using NuPulse claws. A single-8 parlor is quite the boot burner! How does your entry door self close? Is there a weight and a pulley? Or is the track inclined? Thanks for sharing!
I was a dairy judge in high school. Indiana .first year i was 4th distriic and won the purdue inventatinal . Second year i was a badass had resson scores state in the highest . Like abadasss. You got sone sexy girls... keep up the good work kippy😊

I milk still on a group stable it is a lot of work but for my it is the best feeling ya've when you're between the cows and've Physical contact with them . But I must say if ya've a lot of cows then is your manner of milking much better Greets from a colleague farmer.
Similar in speed to a double 4 I'm familiar with which is a DeLaval setup also but with big jars & pound increments then u flip the lever & send it to the tank...(an early 80's setup). You pushing 200 head thru there???
I like the milking set up never seen a parlor like yours , thank you
Thanks, oldy but a goody👍
Thanks for the look at your operation , Kip . Have a great day !
Interesting and Informative. It's been many years since I've been in the barn at milking time. Like that the cows are kept up on current events ;-)
Clean barn, clean and happy cows. Good information.
Great parlour ,quiet and calm love it ,When cow craps is that her view on the news .
Yes that’s right lol

Thanks for taking us from the field work into the barn to show us your milking operation. Great set up. Cheers
Parlor tour was a great, very informative. I’m watching the last of 2019 chopping, world class drone footage! Keep up the great work!
Appreciate that, both those videos turned out good 👍thank you

Really cool video. Might be am old parlour, but the cows all seem to like it. They seemed really comfortable with your system.
Very interesting thank you for sharing

Farming With Kip Siegler Ya he’s a good guy. Works hard but that’s what ya gotta do these days to get ahead.
I love how calm your cows are! And for dairy cows they sure are beefy great work 👍🏻
Definitely plump lol👍
Thank you , enjoyed your video very much. 👍🏾😀 non farmer. George

Awesome 👍

Thanks, lots of truth to all that 👍
It's because they want to control the food supply
In Australia we had the old walk through with a high line milk line running above. With this set it’s like the precursor to the GEA robot milkers🤠
Great video
Love this ! Now I am going to have to pour myself a glass of milk! New friend Ruthie :)
Thank you for sharing the milking cows 🐄. I sure miss my cows quite in 2015 . Tie stall barn was thinking about a parlor before I quit. Easyier on the body as you age . Good luck into the future who knows where the dairy farmer is going

Exactly right 👍
It's amazing how each cow has their own individual personalities
Yes sir
If your cows don't read the newspaper then they are uninformed, if they do read it then they are misinformed.. haha great videos!!
🤠🤠👍👍
Very nice keep it up...
Thanks 👍
They had a modern one of these where I went to collage it milked 12. 6 down each side. Really nice parlour to work in I loved it they used to put about 180 through it. It wasn’t the fastest but it was enjoyable.
love your vids Big Boy
I love old school milk parlors. I love red holstein cows too. Great video too.
Thanks 👍

Cool setup. Might be old but I'd say it still beats a old tie stall or stanchion setup.
Yes it does👍
My favorite video yet. I always liked milking over field work. You already answered one question of the paper now what about the steps with no gate were the cows come in? Any come down the steps and join you for milking?
Yeah they come down very rarely lol
Cows a smart as long as they git their little bit of feed they love standing there
Thanks for letting us see what you do how many miles do you do a day I see no chairs and you don't stop walking
Lots of miles yes 👍
Where I work at a buddy’s dairy down the road we milk 60 head all tie stall and in a old old old bank barn
Some of the older parlors like that had the manure pits below eh. The tank looks like a 1000 gallon the same as ours. Thank you for the video eh.
Thanks
Super job bro i would like to ask you how many lbs is your best cow doing and her breeding
Awesome milking system like you say if it works don't fix it 🚜🚜👍👍🥛
🇺🇸🇺🇸
I remember a double 4 parlor with a chore boy milking system. With pull rope for each feeder in parlor kinda like your pull rope set up.
Good job
Great Video,
Interesting to see your freestall barn and milking.👍
I'm from Germany ;)
Grandpa was from Germany 🇩🇪👍👍
Amazing design for 1960s.and still a good design for today.the advantage is you can let out 1cow when milked.
Would love to learn more about what happens to the milk once it hits the big tank. How long does it stay in there, when and who picks it up etc.....
Yes I need to touch on that👍

Well said and thanks for the reply especially the part about the cows and that parlor paying for it all !!!!
As long as it works, you don't have any added cost for the cows to pay for!
Greetings from Marlette Michigan!!!Individual stalls right on! Nice , I just subscribed

This is how my parents milked in the 70's-80's. But they had 2 rows of 4, with pit in middle. Same pully system on both sides.
Gets the job done!

Thank you, yeah we usually do ok on scc, right around 150,000
No aircylinders to go bad. Pretty neat old parlor.
Is that a surge auto flow parlor? I work for a GEA surge dealer here in Lancaster PA. Heard about parlors like use have but never seen one in person. Pretty cool!
Yeah it is👍 thanks
I’ve always been curious about dairy cows. Never had any at our farm
Hi 🙂what’s with all the newspaper ?
I do like those red and white Holsteins.
You ever feed oats in parlor I visited a farm once they gave scoops of oats.
Hello, cool! Entry door is a heavy Steele door with a puppy and weight to auto shut
Not a bad set up better then 4 spot tie stall lol how many times you get a heifer down in the lower with you
That’s what I thought lol, oh once in a while 👍
I've never seen a single side parlor before. Definitely different.

What is it like for training in 1st calvers
It can get wild lol
@@KipSieglerFarming1 lol👌🤣
How can you tell if cow has mastitis? Our open filter would plug if we missed it getting cows ready
Pre strip the cows and we have a sock filter works good👍
I m surprises how clean it is. We have 3+3 milking setup. Shit is everywhere when we are done.
I just subbed.
How do they no walk down the stairs when they come in? How do you train a heifer with this parlor set up?
Very delicately 🤠👍
How many do y’all milk ? Thanks for sharing great video!!
150 right now 👍
I was a dairy judge in high school. Indiana .first year i was 4th distriic and won the purdue inventatinal . Second year i was a badass had resson scores state in the highest . Like abadasss.
You got sone sexy girls... keep up the good work kippy😊
They was back in 1984 85
Grandpa had a big ass bull from Apollo back In the day he went and from Minnesota weighed 2029 at sale amish bought him up in Topeka Indiana. 100 lbs plus cows . Damn I wish I could have kept him on track
I am still a badass a judging milk cows.
I milk still on a group stable it is a lot of work but for my it is the best feeling ya've when you're between the cows and've Physical contact with them . But I must say if ya've a lot of cows then is your manner of milking much better Greets from a colleague farmer.
Thanks friend 👍
Similar in speed to a double 4 I'm familiar with which is a DeLaval setup also but with big jars & pound increments then u flip the lever & send it to the tank...(an early 80's setup). You pushing 200 head thru there???
Yeah just under, gotta keep moving 👍
3 hr milk in the mornings for sure, ugh. you have the fun job on the farm. Deal with the animals closely but also the field action 👌🤘. Great Vids.
What are the newspaper for ?
Sop up the manure
Ever had a cow walk down them stairs? How do they not come down there by you.
Yes once in a while, lots of training 👍🤠
