This is one of the greatest songs ever and I doubt if I'll ever hear a bad version, and believe me I've heard many of them. Chris's version is among the best.
There is one thing all great songs have in common. They can be played in many different ways and it still sounds great. I have been a huge John Hartford fan since the early 70's. Most people today give credit to Glen Campbell for this song. Glen sure did make popular, but he always gave credit for the song to John. R.I.P. to two of the greats.
Best BPM for this song. I believe Glenn sped it up , he could get away with it but you found the most sensible speed. The lyrics are everything in this song. Congrats ! So well done.
If you are like me, you heard this song as a kid and it put to words the life of freedom that you longed to have when you grew up and could decide for yourself. I can tell from what you put into producing this that you have a closeness to the song.
Thanks Paul. That's very kind. I met his mandolinist, Mike Compton a couple of times and a good chat, and was in the support act when he performed locally with mandolin maker par excellence, Steve Gilchrist.
It is absolutely my favorite song nothing else can touch it, I saw Glen Campbell perform it on tv when i was a kid taking lessons, but never new John Hartford wrote it till i started going the philly folk fest, Nice job
Great Song and great interpretation. Many thank you for playing this song. You play it wonderful. I know maybe 20 different coverd this song. But you are one of the best. Thank you!!!
As good as anything I've seen on TH-cam. Stunning build in the arrangement. BTW Chris my main guitar is a Martin John Rebourn signature . Madagascar Rosewood. I love it, best guitar I've ever owned. I'm about to sing Gentle right now. Keep 'em coming. made my day.
ps when i wanna hear this song i will listion to ur's such a nice flow, thanks for showing the guitar, trying to show my sis this song but she said it was too fast, she will like this, fair play
Thanks Paul. Likewise, and I appreciate the comment. I once chatted to his sidekick, Mike Compton, for about an hour at festival and heard something of his passing, and tales from the road.
Gosh I didn’t even know it wasn’t Glen Campbell’s own song originally! I like the slightly slower pace. Also there’s a lovely version by the Peterson’s on TH-cam. Really suits that young girl’s husky voice. You do a grand job - a lovely voice and phrasing! 👍
Thanks this is a great version of the song. Nicely sung and played. I was just trying to learn a simplified versionof it but you have led me to try your more complicated arrangement. With a lot of practice I may get to be nearly as good
You are very talented in your singing and playing. If you played in a pub I would certainly come along to enjoy. Just love live guitar.xx I do love 💘 your gentle voice. Best wishes from Scotland.xxx
@@ChrisEllis1 wow you picked a beautiful place to stay. Its not that far from Glasgow where I am. I got to America once and got to visit New York. We were on 5th avenue, got to the park and Empire state building. It was brilliant to see. Very best wishes to you and long may you sing and play.xxx
Enjoyable rendition and allowed us to see the guitar fingering . Subscribed to help build your channel so hope you do more work Some Bread Dylan and others as well as any originals
If its OK I'm going to pass on the sheet of music to my grandson. He has a knack for playing but left it behind for basketball!!! He does a wee bit of blackbird from Paul McCartney and I just adore it.xx best wishes to you. 🤩
Thanks Les. That one evolved over many years and many attempts. The picking pattern for the C movement while maintaining the alternating thumb pattern took some serious brain rewiring!
Back in my 20s it took me a year get the alternating thumb pattern happening. A few minutes every day and then one day it just happened. Since then I've been trying to figure out what to do with my fingers!
This is one of the greatest songs ever and I doubt if I'll ever hear a bad version, and believe me I've heard many of them. Chris's version is among the best.
Thanks Geoff. That's very kind. One of my favourite songs, too. I had no idea it would be so popular on my humble TH-cam channel.

Thanks so much.
How does he mute that one. Chord
It just goes to show that famous people are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to human talent. Thanks! I love your version!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth!
Best BPM for this song. I believe Glenn sped it up , he could get away with it but you found the most sensible speed. The lyrics are everything in this song. Congrats ! So well done.
Thanks, Tom. That's as fast as I can maintain! And a lot of lyrics!
Sounds about the same as John Hartson sang it at. The composer always know best!
Handled beautifully.
Wonderful! A version of Gentle on My Mind that really is gentle on my mind - so soothing and gentle 😌
Thanks for listening. I like the slower approach. It's also as fast as I can sustain it!
If you are like me, you heard this song as a kid and it put to words the life of freedom that you longed to have when you grew up and could decide for yourself. I can tell from what you put into producing this that you have a closeness to the song.

Thank you. Yes, I did hear the Peterson's version before I recorded this. It takes a while to get the phrasing right - it's a mouthful!
Cracking job. It’s tough enough playing the finger picking but with those chords as well 😳
Yep. I really had to twist my neurons around to get that C thing happening. On and off for a few years.
I really enjoyed this. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Very well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
i enjoyed that 🙂
Thanks Phil.
Absolutely love your take on this fella, great playing and vocals, well done 👏 👏👌

Thank you for your kind comments. It's great that I've made it to Scotland. I stayed at Dunkeld in Perthshire for a week many years ago.
