That was in the mid 90’s when business wasn’t very good. I think once they beat WCW and took the company public, he probably stopped driving himself most of the time.

I really hate this "carrying the company on their shoulders" nonsense! They weren't carrying the company on their shoulders just because they are holding a toy belt lol. The only time the champion was carrying the company on his shoulders as in relying on his ability to do a good job & draw to get the company to a higher level than it was before was with Hulk Hogan in the mid 80s with the original Wrestlemania and tbh I think alot of that narrative is exaggerated to, it's a storyline to make mcmahon look like a genius or he has the balls to throw every penny he had into a gamble that paid off. There's probably a grain of truth in it but I don't believe it was as big a gamble as he made out, hogan was already over and the business as a whole especially the wwf was on the rise, it was quite obvious that Wrestlemania was going to be a success. It may not have been a garunteed success, there was a chance it could flop but it was unlikely. Ever since that Wrestlemania onwards the wwf became huge and any champion onwards after hogan was only another wrestler who happened to have the belt, he wasn't "carrying the company" its just worn out old bullshit that was at once said because it was somewhat true and just became a verbal habit to say about anyone who has the title. With the exception of possibly Austin when the company was going in a new direction with the attitude era and nobody really knew if It'd backfire to a certain extent and also with the Monday night wars, they kinda pinned hope on austins popularity to be enough to make it a success but if it didn't work out mcmahon was hardly going to go bankrupt or the WWF would die a death! And certainty by the time we get to Cena or ever since they went public the champion has very little impact on anything, its even WHICH champion do u mean... Since there's like 50 titles now and by the time you answer who it's been passed on to someone else. It's just ridiculous and also have to say the stories prichard tells about mcmahon actually make him sound pathetic, not funny at all. Either as a childish, egotistical asshole or a total square without a life, a sado who has no joy or pleasure from life other than having power over others. A total Waste of space of a human being.

@@dabigguy7788 yeah but he kept bringing him back and trying again and again. Even in 97 after all that crap with Bret, we now know that he was trying to bring warrior back and was offering him a ton of money. I don’t know if I would say that he loved warrior then, but he was clearly infatuated with him and really wanted to figure out a way to make it work with him. I mean this isn’t surprising with what we know about Vince loving body guys, and there was no bigger body guy than warrior.

Sgt Slaughter. He is a legend and Hall Of Famer 100% hands down. But come on……Vince wanted to put the belt back on Hogan….without hurting Warrior.
Great storytelling Royal Rumble 91 with Macho Man costing Warrior the title to Slaughter.
Hogan wins the Rumble…..sets up his main event match with Slaughter at WM 7.
This all during the War in Kuwait …..for Slaughter….timing was everything
