The meaning of this song comes from the Ancient Slavic traditions, basically SHUM is a name of a forest God, in ancient traditions, women were singing these kind of Mantras to wake this God up with the coming of Spring after his long Winter slumber.
In Serbian, forest is SHUMA, but one of these ancient slavic gods was Leshi, probably connected with forest, serbian name for the tree where nuts are, is Leska, Leshnik is nut. Holy tree of Slavs was „Hrast/Zapis"
Oh Spring song, Spring song Where have you spent your Winter? In the garden, sitting on a maple tree You’ve been spinning a shirt. There on the edge of a forest An owl is blowing into the water. I’ll sing a song - Let her hear it. Shum, get twined with periwinkle I’m singing the vesnyanka to you. Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants, Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones. Come Spring, come Don’t wait around We’ll go outside to love each other. Oh Spring, our Miss, Look in our window. We had sang our song And the Sun shined on. Come on, come on, let’s twine the Shum, Twine the Shum, dance it around. Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants, Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones. Shum, get twined, get twined!
As an italian I was happy that we won, but this was my second favorite, I love that you too were singing in your language, it's a shame that most of the Eurovision songs are always in English 😅 it's more beautiful if everyone brings part of their culture like Ukraine did 😊
I'm from Turkey and I don't know why, but the melody of the song and the voice of the woman singing the song are so beautiful that I can't stop listening to it, it's really amazing. 🖤
As someone that is not from Europe and doesn't know about Slavic culture, I can't understand several things about the song... However, it does sound phenomenal!
What exactly do you not understand? I may be able to explain. Vesnyanka is a special type of ritual song our ancestors used to sing to make the spring come faster, they also sowed different plants, like hemp plants to make ropes and baskets. An owl blowing on the water be a trace of some ancient belief about those birds being able to clear the water with the sounds they make:)
Someone poured their heart into making this, it shows, and I'm proud of my Ukranian brothers for making this masterpiece. Greetings from Macedonia 🇲🇰🇲🇰🇲🇰.
All slavs understand this. Thats why we are slavs. We use the same words. Youll be a slav, when you learn it an you know what that means th-cam.com/video/oN6doVEr1XM/w-d-xo.html
You probably will learn the sounds eventually because I did that with french and a spanish song I like and although I know a bit of french I know ZERO spanish and I still learnt the song off by heart ❤
Sorry but I have to confuse you, but the Slavs don't listen to their folk songs at parties. They are used to listening to rap, pop, "disco polo" etc. Songs that are cultural, usually listened to at themed events or celebrations. however, fewer and fewer people listen to such songs, they are usually older people. However, it is possible that this song is hanging around the parties as it is more of a mix of genres of music. Sorry my english is not perfect or I didn't understand you 😅
So do I, I really really really love this song and my Ukrainian pronunciation is getting better by the second 🤗🤗but I have no idea what I am pronouncing. Could you please tell me what it is about? Because I have no trust in Google Translate 😉.
Where are you going, scarecrow, the authorities pitted brothers and sisters, my relatives live there, who really have a hard time, these are our families, and you from your states only look at us like dogs and eventually take the side of the winners
The education system is partly to blame. Aside from political stuff, I've never learned anything about slavic culture in school, nor any other culture. We learn about historical events, but nothing cultural and it's sad :/
Being someone who only knows English but is willingly learning this song is fun tbh Also, I did research on this song, the meaning is really cool! If you don't know the meaning, do research too, trust me, you won't regret it.
whats the first reason? russia is 'evil'? its ukraine's fault! Ukraine bombed Donbass for many years! russia wants to help Donbass! its celensky's fault! dont blame russia!

All slavs understand this. Thats why we are slavs. We use the same words. Youll be a slav, when you learn it an you know what that means th-cam.com/video/oN6doVEr1XM/w-d-xo.html

Imagine being a Slav and listennong this on a party.....Slava Rodu😘
