Noreen's Kitchen: Quick Tip, Baked Sausage for Quick Breakfasts

  • www.noreenskitc... Greetings! Since I got a smokin' deal on breakfast sausage at my local grocery store when I purchased a "Meal Deal" for $5.99 for breakfast sausage, OJ, Biscuits and eggs, I thought I would give this a try.
    I love to buy breakfast sausage from Schwans home service, but they recently closed their distribution center in my area and now if I want it, I have to order online and have it delivered to my house in a cooler, packed with dry ice. I don't want to pay the shipping, so I am trying to bake the sausage and then package it in sandwich bags to be heated up per serving.
    This turned out very well and now I will be doing this on a regular basis. This will be great on busy mornings to go along with the pancakes I make and keep in the freezer. Heat them up together in the microwave and you have a quick wholesome breakfast that you have cooked yourself.
    Give this a try! I know you will love it for its convenience.
    Happy Eating

    I really appreciate you sharing this. I love breakfast sausages, but never have time weekday mornings. What a great idea to bake all at once, then freeze for quick use.

    cook a pot of macaroni, add some cheddar cheese, a can of chopped tomatoes and a few of your sausages cut bite size pieces. top with some more shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese bake at 350 until cheese browns and you have a quick easy supper.
    We have been making sausages since my husband can't eat pork, beef is the way to go. but today we are going to make turkey ones..95 lb so I got 2. going to be a busy day here. 10 trays of mixed veg. & apples going already.
    prepping is addictive.

    Ours also closed over in Lenoir, NC. I contacted Schwan's and let them know how disappointed I was that they closed it and I refuse to have it shipped to me in a cooler. I mean what happens if I am not home when it is delivered and it gets stolen? Are they gonna replace it? NOT!!

    Great idea on this way of baking sausages or bacon for that matter. A tip for you or everyone, is you can cook in smaller batches you can bake half a package or whatever you want and eat what you cook rather than freezing the rest. same goes for bacon just cook four strips at a time you don't have to cook the entire package.

    There are only two reasons I go to Food Lion. 1. Because they are having a really smokin deal on something I use in my food storage and I simply can't justify not getting it. 2. Because I am lazy, need something fast and they are literally a block away from my house. Well I guess there is a number 3. Because they for some reason have an excellent organic and international food section. I do tend to find nice things there from time to time that I can't get anywhere else. Thanks! Noreen

  • @noreenskitchenchannel
    @noreenskitchenchannel  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @armywifeprepper You know I was thinking that as well! I want to can breakfast sausage patties. Katz says that you just cook them up and stack them in the jar with some broth. I think that would be a more efficient use of the jar space. I hate losing jar space if I can help it. You sometimes can't avoid it if you are doing odd shaped things though like sausages. I also want to try some smoked sausages. I think it would be nice to have that on the shelf! Noreen : )

    I'm stunned by how cheap the food is over there but then again I'd be interested in the quality
    My Aunt uses the same method although, for some strange reason, she skins them first. For me there is nothing like cooking them in a pan and then using the left over oil to fry up some hash browns and an egg or two

    I prefer Kroger meats and groceries since IMHO they seem fresher and I found by using their weekly ad and in store sales it can be cheaper then Wal-Mart.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video is five years old. The sausages I prepared were purchased at a Harris Teeter market, which is owned under the Kroger banner. I seldom purchase meat at Walmart. Opting for my favorite store which is the Piggly Wiggly where I can have the butcher cut me the meat I would like to have fresh. I do however purchase some meats at Walmart when they are on promotions during the year. Mostly I buy my meat from Zaycon Fresh because I can buy in bulk for cheap and process as I choose, be it freezing or canning.

    @atticus9799 Wasted jar space? I'm not sure your visualizing like I am lol i have some short squatty ( is that a word?) Jars that I use for spreads (like butter&jam) that are the perfect breakfast sausage height and it holds just the right amount for a family of four ( unless they are mostly boys:)) hope you can visualize it now lol! Have you seen ironheads video on hot dogs? Like that but shorter jars.

      These were not pre-cooked sausages. These were actually raw sausages that were being baked and then frozen so that they could be reheated quickly in preparation for use on a quick breakfast morning when you need to get out of the house.

      Harris Teeter does about six Buy two get three deals once a month all in the same week. Usually they do either Pepsi or Coke 12 packs. Then they rotate between chicken breasts, bags of house brand cheese, spaghetti sauce, tuna, and our favorite, their premium coffee. When these things are BTGT, we go and get the max daily for that week. I freeze the cheese and I have 2 totes full of the coffee in my bedroom closet. Buying at todays' price saves money tomorrow.

    and ow they're almost the size of a wal-mart store. I have bad hips, and knees and I can't deal with all that walking so I rarely shop Kroger. Since Food Lion is the only other major grocery store that we have I do most of my shopping there. I'd rather shop Kroger, but as I said, they're too large for me. We use to have Winn Dixie stores but they went bankrupt years ago. We do have a few discount grocery stores like Save a Lot and one other one. But their selection is not that good and they have

    I wish we had a piggly wiggly store in in Virginia where I live. We use to have a few Harris Teeters but they were too expensive and only lasted a year or two and went out of business. Knowing I know about Wal-Mart I'd almost rather go buck naked and die of hunger than shop there. The only other major grocery stores we have are Food Lion and Kroger. Kroger stores have been here since before I was born and that was in 1955. They have a great selection but they super sized them several years ago

      @@Lisaairbnb breakfast sausage is not a safety tested product for canning. Just because you see people do it, does not make it safe. Yes, even though you browned them they will turn to mush because when you put things under extreme pressure they fall apart. I will not give advice on how to can this product because I do not think it is safe to do so. Please do some reading research to find out why I do not think this is a good idea. You can can cooked browned sausage that is not in a casing. Just like you would with ground beef. It will still be mushy when finished.
