Hummingbirds are the smallest of birds, most species measuring 7.5-13 cm (3-5 in) in length.
The smallest extant bird species is the 5 cm (2 in) bee hummingbird, which weighs less than 2.0 g (0.07 oz).
They are known as hummingbirds because of the humming sound created by their beating wings which flap at high frequencies audible to humans.
They hover in mid-air at rapid wing-flapping rates, which vary from around 12 beats per second in the largest species, to in excess of 80 in some of the smallest.
With over 300 species of hummingbirds known to us, here are the 10 most beautiful / amazing hummingbirds in the world. These hummingbirds are including booted racket-tail, green breasted mango, rufous crested coquette, anna's hummingbird, long tailed sylph, violet crowned woodnymph, wire crested thorntail, marvelous spatuletail, red tailed comet, and fiery throated hummingbird.

They're the most beautiful birds and are endemic to America from Alaska to Patagonia , you can find hummingbirds in every single country of the Americas. They're living gems .

Watch these beauties every year between March 15th and October 15th. They let you know their presence and often wave goodbye at end of migration. Love them all.

Hummingbirds also help to pollinate vegetable and flower gardens too. I have fed them for 35 years. I also got my mom interested in doing (she has passed on now) the same. I passed this interest on to my son and his family also. I have immensely enjoyed them over many years. I've also enjoyed their attitude, intelligence, and boldness. They can also be quite comical at times! Here we have the ruby throated hummingbirds in western NC, USA.

I should consider myself lucky as We have 3 feeders that are filled year round for our hummingbirds. We have some species that over-winter here in the Pacific Northwest in Washington State. More join in the spring. We have Several different species including the 'Anna's Hummingbird' 3:31. But WOW I would SO LOVE to see All those Beauties from South-America!!!

I never tire of seeing & discovering the many species of hummingbird. Like many, I have a little family of them who visit my place everyday. I can just stand motionless, & for a little while, watch them do their thing. It's beautiful.

I know how to get them to come to your hands in about 35 mins
Step 1: get some nectar from your hummingbird feeder and get it in your hand
Step 2: sit outside for about 35 mins
Step 3: let the humming birds come to you :3

We have #7 Anna's Hummingbird? All around outside our home in California, i watch them enough to be slightly familiar with certain individuals that have certain spots they like to sit or tactics they use to chase or scare away other males trying to get a drink from "their" feeding spot.
Actually had one a few days ago zip under our patio while being chased by a 2nd humming bird and was going so fast it almost hit my leg but at the last second it shifted and with it's tiny feet rebounded off my shin and completely lost the one chasing him. He then sat on his favorite stick in the bushes gave himself a little scratch puffed his feathers and went back to drinking on the feeder.
The little guys are like amped-up tiny gym bros constantly checking one another until a girl shows up then it seems like they get confused about weather they want to chase her off or try and flex out in front of her.
So Much Cuter when little birds do it. 😄👍

@Churchill Bebe I thought it was interesting that the Anna’s Hummingbird was included. It isn’t even the most beautiful hummer of North America, at least not in my opinion!

Technically honey bees are invasive to North America and have done huge damage to native bee populations. The native bee populations were more efficient and better for the environment. We should be protecting them instead; people just care more about honey bees because they care more about honey than practical environmental conservation.
Also albinism is a harmful genetic mutation, not an actual seperate species. We should protect lions in general, not specifically the albino ones.

They call them humming birds for a few reasons i like the fact that when the males dive down their tail feathers make different noises that the female hears from him diving above her, then flashes his special brilliant colored feathers

Hummingbirds evolved in the Americas about 22 million years ago. By that time, Europe, Africa and Asia were already thousands of miles from the Americas, too far to allow them to migrate.

Great video with a lot of common sense comments and observations. Looking forward to seeing others by you. I'm here in Las Vegas and love my hummers. I need to get a couple more feeders and they squabble over just the one. Fun watch them annoy the Cooper's Hawk when it shows up at the bird bath. Too small and quick to catch and bugs the crap out of him.
