Have you ever seen Vikingur Ólafsson live? What was your favourite performance? Let us know.
Yes. In the Laeiszhalle. The Organ piece. It is different on cd. I hope he records more Bach in the future. Thank you for reminding us constantly of him. Have a merry Christmas :)
No never. But I would like to. I love Bach and this sounds great so this could be a favorite. But one of many. Ólafsson plays fantastic.
If he comes to Peru, I will definitely see him.
I saw him live in the Berlin Konzerthaus with a pretty poor Mozart c-minor concerto.
Last year in La Roque d'Antheron playing Debussy and Rameau. Especially his Debussy was fantastic!
Keeping that clarity and synchronisation at 135 bpm of the prelude is incredible. Well done.
This is one of those rare times the prelude is harder than the fugue
@@lunagardvonbingen I studied this piece for an examination and I found the fugue more difficult😵.
Both the prelude and fugue requires sufficient technical ability. The prelude needs precise and even playing, which is quite straightforward to practice. Whereas the fugue has a contrapuntal texture, requiring the performer to execute all three voices simultaneously.
@@lunagardvonbingenThe fugue is only harder when studied and played correctly!
No the fugue is harder@@lunagardvonbingen
Here is a pianist whose playing one can recognize, like Horowitz or Glenn Gould; yet one doesn't find him obtrusive. A very pleasant surprise to "discover" him. A great talent. Thank you for uploading.
the first musician from Iceland, who plays serious music in top class
He published a CD with a crossover of Rameau (baroque) and Debussy, 300 years apart, very interesting. I love the track "girl with golden hair / fille aux cheveux lin"
@@happysailormusica Iceland has numerous brilliant classical artists not too mention the jazz and rock science .Also we have brilliant symphony orchestra playing in one of the greatest music hall in the world .
Shut up
@@bercaferca4554 You good?
Exceptional voicing in the Fugue. You can hear EVERY exposition stand out. Beautiful
A young Dmitri Shostakovich.
About a foot taller,not Russian,and certainly not a composer of great 20th century symphonies...😊
Apart from that...😊
Yes😂😂
Going by appearances? haha
I think he’s literally talking by appearances cause he calls him young lol nice one 😂
Why? Just because he's white and wears glasses?
omg… he makes it sound easy!! which it IS NOT. how does it sound so light yet crisp?!!
I am learning this piece; I doubt I'll ever can that clean, crisp tone Vikingur manages to retain throughout. Marvelous performance. I keep playing it over and over again listening to every note. Then I play it again. Then I applaud with everyone else.
Just perfect control of all three voices and also don’t have the same exact tone throughout. As in pay attention closely and hear the varying dynamics of each voice throughout. Specifically when it turns to E Flat in the beginning, nice second voice (is, specifically what I’m aiming for). Plays with perfect care. This is the skill we’re all reaching for
I loved this interpretation i was looking for a very fast, fluent and flawless version of Prelude Fugue in C minor, this guy is a monster player
Agreed
Never heard that piece played so clearly ever, absolutely tremendous!
First Prelude and Fugue I ever studied. Great performance!
I think it's the first for us all.
@@amadeusradio9608 after the wtc 1 c major prelude
For me too
Mee too!
@@johannesbrahms3322 not the fugue....only the prelude....the first fugue is a little more difficult...
So much texture in the Fugue!! Errggggggh I'm crying 😍
How the hell does one get this sort of sound out of the piano? This is the most amazing rendition I've ever heard of the prelude in c minor and the performance as a whole is so beautifully articulated and transparent...
When you're playing a top of the line piano like stienway, bosendorfer, yamaha, etc etc what did you expect?
To me it’s not necessarily the sound it’s the precision and speed of his technique. I play this and it’s like I’m watching a movie slo mo-😂
Years of pain in the fingers?
It’s a combination of the acoustics of mainly the piano and the room as well as the excellent performance. It takes both in unison for perfection. Barenboim has great recordings of pieces; I think he has the best acoustics available
Wonderful! The prelude played in one breath yet so transparent and with an excellent arcticulation profile.
"articulation profile" - wha? Nice made-up term lol
ChristensenBrian bruh it means clarity in the production of successive notes lol
@@ChristensenBrian bruh just shut up
It’s exactly what i wanted to say
@@arbeitsloseseinhorn107 Nice username
Brings out the Toccata-like character of this Prelude magnificently.
Exactly
0:00 Prelude
1:24 Fugue
Very nice. The power of Bach is that there are often multiple legitimate options. Here, tempo and clarity is intensively present. Well done.
@@maxfelt2725 it’s actually spelt Bach
I'm not sure I 've ever heard a piano sound like that (i.e. like the beginning of this prelude). It was phenomenal
So much clarity and precision. Good luck to the performer! Speed was spot on
Good “luck”?
I think luck is all he’s got, in a GOOD way
What an inspiring performance. It is incredibly articulate but he still makes the voices sing individually AND in unison. Bravo sir.
I really like his interpretation of the prelude, such a control of each note, and several interesting nuances.
Bestes Preludio & Fuge ever.....Bach is music and music is Bach. Wo wäre der Musikgenre gelandet wenn es nicht den Herrn Bach gegeben hätte....
Chaos and discipline that's what I feel when I hear this music.
Finally he starts on the best of Bach, the 48. And as I hoped, played with soulful precision.
I didn’t know we can Bach this way.... very unique motivation with in the notes
This young man is incredibly brilliant, talented and precise. Thank you for blessing my ears!
Your welcome dad
Thanks Uncle
Deceptively simple but superb phrasing and elicits inner voices with subtlety and power.
OMG!!! This dude Rocks!! Amazing performance 🎶🎶🎶🎶🤘🏻😜
He highlights the baroque era perfectly, his articulation representing quite like a harpsichord and organ, which is possibly where Bach made this piece for. Beautiful interpretation!
Wonderful pianist, magic fingersa and playing one of of my favorites of Bach since childhood.. Lucky day to have discovered him today. Thank you!
He mastered this piece. Perfect interpretation.
Я с вами согласен
Simple and brilliant. Listening to and crying. Very powerful and touching.
Turn to this music whenever you want to experience perfection.
Are you that film score composer?
@@braevinmaund1210 The film composer is Steve Jablonsky and he is younger than I, so I was composing before he was born.
I like how he brings out the left hand melody at 2:00 and how he stresses the lower canon part at 2:28.
Vikingur, lui « fait dans la dentelle » Sublime !
the use of the pedal at 0:36 is mesmerizing. I also have to do it
True, I love that part!
Agreed
Exactly its like an immense build up and then it disdains again
quite underrated. Excellent performance, bravissimo.
By far my favorite prelude and fugue
It's amazing, unbelievable. the best version, a great game!
This is an amazing performance of this particular prelude and fugue. I loved how musical and technical he was!
Absolutely Clean, Clear and Magical! Never heard like this before...
Brilliant! Crystal clear articulation.
Impressive gradual acceleration in the fugue, I like it.
I began to expect a rather dramatic pace, then it ended!
Do you have any examples of this, going from normal or slow, to presto, imperceptibly?
In baroque music you generally want to stick to the original tempo but his change was quite subtle, so I don’t think too many of us would mind
Браво. Пока что мне нравится это в исполнении рихтера и этого парня🎉❤
The first part is just great. Greetings from Argentina.
This performance makes me cry and enjoy happiness
Wowowow! Amazing performance. Thanks for shaing!
Amazing!! Bach would be proud!!!
Great, Sir Ólafsson! The best interpretation I've ever heard!
He makes it seem, like the prelude was composed by Philip Glass. Extraordinary. He has the most sublime touch I've heard in recent years.
Perfect accoustic for a perfect articulation !
We call this in the performance industry "hors d'oeuvres"
Magnifique!
Franchement, en voilà un superbe pianiste!
Clear and present the energy !
Touch my heart by future…
БРАВООО!!!!!!!
Tellement beau !!!!
Люблю цю прелюдію, її постійно грали піаністи в мене в школі, я запам'ятав цю музику коли йшов по коридору і чув прелюдію з якогось класу)
In addition to this masterful execution, which is reminiscent of Stanislav Richter, the piano and the sound recording (live!) are pure wonder. Steinways often tend to sound metallic, this one not at all...
wonderful wonderful wonderful! one of my favorite interpretations of this piece
¡Oh Dios! Es una de las mejores versiones que he escuchado.
Me gusta la técnica, muy buena interpretación.
Muchas gracias.
LOL
Me encanta esa aceleración constante que tiene :) Es de lo mejor
Beyond words, simply excellent.
Oh how wonderful ! Thank you. 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
His precision is outstanding
I love his interpretation. So light and clear. Prefer this to Glenn Gould which sounds a bit stiff when you hear both tracks side by side.
Funny, I felt the exact opposite of that! I found this interpretion more "scholar" and neat, but quite cold, and Gould's one much more emotionally overwhelming. Him lowering the tempo and playing staccato gives, to me, a dramatic impulse, each note ticking like a clock or a heartbeat that gets more and more disturbed by dissonant notes like a mechanism that gets rusty.. that's funny and interesting to witness everyone's feeling about that masterpiece!
Remember that the recording technology wasn’t as advanced in Glenn Gould’s time.
@@simon76def Gould’s Bach interpretations are rather unique.
@@kangchenjunga591 True! And I just keep wondering about how it was played at Bach's time, considering the musical devices then. Couldn't play legato for it was on an harpsichord, so Gould's regular staccato might be more accurate than we think!
Agree - for my taste (to borrow a phrase from Martin Frost) Gould's interpretation sounds quite stodgy and for me draws attention to the fact that the music was not written for piano - but maybe that is just because we are so used to the 'traditional' interpretations?
love the opening! so clear and precise
so refreshing! thanks for uploading
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you playing this with such amazing passion and sensitivity too. You are quite Brilliant too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
It sounds very calm and graceful.
Calm? No the opposite
Olafsson is a fantastic interpreter of Bach!
He really is!
Wow, he is incredible. Donna Summer used this in the beginning of her song, Mystery of Love.
SUPERB!
Stunning interpretation!
He is an amazing piano player.
Amazing clarity! The key to this clear performance is the quick note releases. Amazing performance!
I played in my 8 th grade examination trinity college in year 2006 👏👏👏👏
His plating of the fugue is perfect as far as I'm concerned. Unhurried and fabulous articulations and phrasing. :-)
Where are you concerned in this piece? This fugue?
@@bercaferca4554 I meant that this is the best performance. in my opinion. 'As far as I am concerned ' is way of saying 'in my experience'. :-)
Incroyable 😍🤹🏿♀️
Ich bin begeistert!👍👍👍
Восхитительно!
Wow!!! Cómo sueño con tocar así!!! Me encanta!
Великолепно! Браво!!!
Can you imagine what this madlad would do with Scarlatti?
I NEED THIS YESTERDAY
It sounds like an adventure beginning.
I don’t know much about classical music but Bach is cool
Very interesting voicing
This is really an excellent interpretation. This video needs more views and likes!
Sooo nice to listen to. Thank you very bach.
Extreme clarity, and singing within the tempo. (Bach is in this simple thing: singing within the tempo. What Gould the machine never understood)
Amazing ❤❤❤
Great performance 👏👏👏
Best wishes for 2024 🎶🕯️💐
Thank you! You too!
Impeccable!!!
Very beautiful! Impressive!
Magnifique.

Breathless first part. Oh my God. He is perfect.
Absolutely wonderful!
Can't wait to hear him TODAY in Chicago - Mozart!
Grande pianista!
Fantastico pianista
Brilliant, Bravo!
Bravissimo.. stupendo, superbo..
