I just found your channel, and I find it very interesting and entertaining. I subscribed immediately after watching like 50 episodes in 3 days. I live in California USA, so it is fascinating for me to see the real lives of real Russian people. You guys do a great job and I'm looking forward to watching all the episodes. Keep up the good work. Peace.
I really enjoyed this segment and I think the apartment has character. I am sorry that some Americans say negative things. I think they are forgetting their manners. Some have not traveled a lot, or do not know that Americans are very lucky to have a little more than other countries. I read that 40% of you have college degrees. Only about 27% of Americans have degrees, because it is pretty easy to do well without a degree here (as long as a person goes to technical school to get a trade or go into business.) Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Americans don't understand. These empty apartments are rented. themselves tenants of these apartments live in a more modern style apartments. have repair is not 90 years old, and 2016....more modern and civilized. Man from the province, these apartments seem like Paradise.the people themselves the province the apartments have a modern kind of character. in the us there are much worse apartment.
I 'm Russian - American, however, I'm Russian to the bones LOL! I speak Russian and Spanish and understand five other languages. I have a Master degree other certifications and accomplishments. No school loans. Worked -full time and attended college full -time. Got married and had a baby when I received, my Master degree. Lots of Americans are clueless about what it's like in other countries or speak a foreign language.
+Daniel I am an American from Long Island, but 3 out of 4 of my Grandparents were from Russia. One from Minsk and my fathers parents were from Vilna. I tried to upload a picture, but couldn't.
@@archlich4489 privyet. So sorry, guys. She finally took a management job with a securities firm here in San Francisco where we live together in an elegant flat on her salary.
One of my favorite episodes of real Russia for two reasons; 1) I love that fish eye camera lens effect and 2) Everything about Ekaterina :u, I would not be able to be in the same room with her without having my heart malfunction.
I like these videos. To all the people who think documentations about "everyday life" would be boring. Just watch "boring" everyday street scenes from your home town today - 30 years from now. You will get tears in your eyes and won't get enough. I'll have to visit Moscow someday... Now that I have the entry code to Katyas appartement-complex.. ;-) lol
I am American and it is so cool to watch your videos to get an idea of what it's like to live in Russia. Props to Katya, she's inspiring! I will be on my way there soon. Thanks to you all!
Guys, I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos! I've been studying your language for a little over a year now (I love it), and I have always wondered what life was really like over there. I am finally feeling like I have a grasp of life in Russia, and that is all thanks to you guys. Keep 'em coming.
everyone on here that lives in America is saying they can get a nice ass house with the amount she makes but fail to forget there's a shit load of other bills besides rent including your car note and insurance she is doing very good
Mr. baklykov, brother! I first started to follow you three years ago, some how I lost track of you, but you’re still here and still my best Russian vlogger. Keep it up brother,! Mother Russia rules!!! Saludos from Arizona, USA!
This is how the Russian Rich get more rich..by piling on the innocent Lambs of the ordinary Russian people. There are some really, really rich people in Russia who were just Communist Bureaucrats twenty years ago. The Lambs have been soaking up the propaganda for many decades.
Also, I forgot, unless the car is made in Russia there is a very high tariff on the imported car. I saw one in these Real Russia films of a Chevrolet Camaro in Moscow. In USA the cost of the Camaro is about $37,000 whereas in Moscow the car owned by a Russian was about $80,000. That is an incredible difference!
Katya is very charming. But I don't understand why she would own a car which is costing her half of her meager monthly salary. Moscow has excellent public transportation, and the city is so choked with traffic that the metro can usually get you to your destination faster than any car or taxi. It makes no sense to own a car if she is living in the city.
jandean61 Not those who live in bigger cities like NYC, SF, Boston or Chicago. In most other parts of America, it is difficult or even impossible to survive without a car because most American cities were built for the automobile, not the pedestrian.
Gabriel von Wolfhausen If that's the case then she is foolish to hang on to it. She should sell it because it is costing her a fortune (more than a third of her pre-tax salary).
jandean61 Bullshit. Americans do not sell their homes in order to buy cars and to later rent a room. In Russia having a car is regarded as being wealthy regardless of if u have roof, feed like a rat to pay credit. stupid but true. moreover russian cities esp Moscow and st.Petersburg have one of if not the biggest problems with parking lots.
I think there might be some confusion on the job title. "Manager" in America would be like the Chief of the whole bank branch, responsible for everything and everyone at that location. I think her position in the bank would be more like a customer or client relationship manager. I agree with the others as well; she is very cute.
In modern Russia the title менеджер means any job related to the organizational process. So yes, you may name her a clerk, if you want so. But the word клерк (a clerk) is not used here usually, now it sounds archaic and offensive a bit.
Videos such as this one are exactly the reason why I subscribed to your channel. I am really glad that I found you on TH-cam when I was searching for videos in which I could see the real everyday Russian life. Please keep up the good work, you have my support! Greetings from Slovakia
We live with roommates in the big cities in Sweden too, but that apartment was really sad looking - the apartment itself was nice enough it just needs renovation :p
I liked the high ceilings and I noticed double interior doors in one of the rooms, which looked quite grand. The windows looked big - nice and bright too. I agree it would be really pleasant place with a bit of renovation work. I'd put a few potted plants about and paint the walls. Perhaps she doesn't want to waste money on things like that if she's only renting though.
These apartments were built immediately after the war; thus, it was built in a hurry to provide houses for millions who lost everything during the war. these are built heavily, but space is not so big. both Stalin apartment ( built before the war) and Brezhnev apartment ( built during 1970s) are much much bigger.
You would never find an apartment with such high ceilings where I live in San Antonio Texas because it is hot here and people have to have air conditioning. High ceilings would make the electric bill much higher
Khruschev apartments in Moscow are going to be demolished very soon. The residents are considered themselves very lucky as they will get brand new apartments with much bigger space.
+Streetway ST But when you're in your twenties renting your first apartment in a large city you're not going to have the best living arrangements imaginable. Hell, I'm looking for studio apartments right now because as a single guy that's all I really need.
Thank you Katya for letting us in your home and thank you Sergey and Sergey for giving us the tour. I must say going up and down all those stairs everyday would surly keep oneself in shape. :) Great job as always and keep them coming. Hugs, Vicki
Wait, she has a solid, professional career and she only makes $1,400 a month? Do you realize that's only $16,800 for annual wages? And I thought the U.S. was bad when it came to horrifically underpaying their workers.
Yes, at that time when we filmed this video she's only made $1,400 but it's hard to name a work as a client's manager as a solid career. This is actually a lowest position in a career stairway of banks.
***** Which is still surprising, given the fact that her monthly wage is roughly equal to what a person working a drive through window at McDonald's would make.
+John Smith The low salaries are common in Eastern Europe. I was shocked also. My father and mother in law are pensioners who live in Moldova. They receive about $400 per month state pension to live on. They own their apartment, taxes are nil, and they are doing OK. Also, health care is free in Russia.
I will need to see the other room mates before I believe she is sharing the apartment. I should probably come to the apartment for a few months and try some real Russian cooking and really experience the life. GREAT video. Thanks! Music editing was awesome!

I have noticed the same thinking of Russians who come tothe United States. They will buy a car that costs more than they can really afford. $25,000 for a used BMW. They must pay 500-600 dollars a month for the loan and another 300 dollars for the insurance. The make 2200 dollars a month. At the end of 5 years they have junk. Image seems to be very important.
nah just dumb car guys. i'm Russian and i know a lot of Russian's that could give two shits about what car they drive. we don't really care about our imagine in that sense
I think she has an appropriate car. Kia Rio is a nice little vehicle. That the price and interest rates are high, doesn't help. Katya probably did what she could.
The point I can see is life is similar in Russia in many ways to the US. Young people go to big cities like San Francisco, and look for roommates on Craigslist. I have also taken out bank loans to pay off a Honda and a Nissan. Parking is sparse in San Francisco and many young people ride bikes or scooters everywhere. They are called bike hipsters.
there is more to it than just that. its complicated to understand to a foreigner. its how they dress, act, react, physically appear and more. not every bike rider is a hipster, but many hipsters ride bikes.
+amber cumber No way. I've seen flats in NY half the size that cost two or even three times as much and they're in worse condition. Try Flushing near the Chinatown section. Those apartments are low grade and overpriced and many don't provide any parking either.
