I agree with you on replacing the spine book. I’m not a fan of the anatomy books either. Thanks for the recommendation. And I love the idea of printing only the practical parts of the teacher guide. I always read it all but don’t need part 1 in print when planning.
Yes! I find that reading all the info is super helpful, but...this helps me save time and money for printing! We started this this week and I already know we're going to enjoy the new spine much more and find it more useful.
I haven't managed to pick up any books from that series yet, but they look delightful! I'm so glad I "bumped into" his books at the library this summer because I had never heard of him before--but he would definitely be a go-to author for nature topics going forward!
I agree with your choice of replacing the core book!!! I print a lot of black and white for my 5 year old daughter as she loves to colour it herself!!! When we did TGTB Marnie biology we watched blue planet by BBC!!! It’s awesome but there’s a lot of information!!!
I think this DK Ocean book will be a better for for us a core book! And my boys love educational shows about animals, so I'm definitely looking forward to some Ocean-related documentaries! Thanks for the recommendation!
Now that we've actually been using this Oceans study for a while...I've enjoyed the DK book so much better, and find it easier to teach from. Happy I made the switch!
This was so helpful. I had GCN and GC Primer sitting on my shelf for the last three years.... I took it out once a month to agonize over how to implement it. I don't do well with so many moving parts, but you've really simplified this. I'd love to see how you schedule your week, and how you'd adjust it for older students (7-9)?
I know that Gentle + Classical resources may not look, at first, super easy to implement, but once you get a rhythm down, I have found it to be very natural, especially if you already have the habit of a daily time to sit together and read aloud! I recently posted a video walking through what a week of using G+C Primer and Nature looks like, using a real-life week as an example: th-cam.com/video/zt2QOBJ8wkQ/w-d-xo.html It is fairly easy to adapt to different ages: With Nature with older kids, I would have them use the higher level (either 2 or 3, whichever looks like a better fit for your kids) for the memory statement cards, the level 2 student notebook, and I'd try to find the level 2 recommended books. Especially for your 9 year old, they can be doing more of their own journaling/notebooking to record what they've observed and learned on the unit's topic.
I didn't do a review specifically for this, but I did talk about our experience using it in my end-of-year homeschool recap/review video last year: th-cam.com/video/uXEiW9kzqWo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f6xb_-fl3o1V1eM3 Spoiler: we loved it, had an absolute blast, it was a great fit and my boys still bring up activities we did and animals they learned about.
Thanks for this walk through! What did you not like about the Nature Anatomy book? I'm debating between using volume 1 and volume 2 for next year, so just curious. ☺️
I know that many, many people love it, but for me, it was a miss. To me, the information to teach from/talk about seemed very minimal and scattered, and the fact that it was watercolor paintings vs. photographs or more realistic images just didn't seem to connect with my kids as well for identifying different plants and animals. I enjoyed using Nature Volume 1 VERY much, but the Nature Anatomy spine just wasn't super useful for us, which is why I went with a different spine versus Ocean Anatomy.
@@SevenInAll YES!! I felt like I was the only one in my home school circle thinking the same thing with the Rothman books. I prefer more realistic photos,
No, they don't build on each other or advance in difficulty, they are just different topics. Volume 1 is more focused on temperate forests/freshwater habitats.

Thank you for sharing Jim Arnosky. I think I'm really going to like his crinkleroot series.

We are so excited to do GCP Nature Vol 2 after taking a break from nature this year - thank you for the walk through!
We've been having an absolute blast with this this year...we're in Unit 14 now and I'll be sad when it ends.
Nice share, have a great Sunday
Thank you! You too!

I'm also not a fan of the rothman books, especially not considering how expensive they are. 🙈 Thank you so much for the dk recommendation

Thanks for watching!

@@SevenInAll That makes sense, something to consider!
