I’m curious on the steps to connect through a digipeater to accomplish this. It’s style mysterious to me and I need an ah-ha moment. I’m going to watch again to see if it’s in the video. Thanks for sharing this video.
And there it is in the email at 23 seconds in. So that answers my question on how to do it through Vara. Suppose all you have is packet and a Mobilinkd TNC4…. Is there a way to go through a digipeater?
Good question! I use the RadioMail app on my iPhone for Winlink email with the Mobilinkd TNC and an HT. There is a Digipeater setting in RadioMail, so I'll have to look into that and maybe give it a try! If I figure it out, I'll be sure to do a video.
I just don’t understand how this is so much better. The computer, cables, and that honking big choke on the interconnect cable. I just turn on my HT, key mic, talk no big honking choke on the mic cable.
Winlink is not my favorite mode/activity, but I try to practice regularly since I see value in it. As for the chokes, my experience, along with some others, is that it’s sensitive to RFI. The cheap laptop probably is too. Choking the cables has helped mitigate that though.
@@MikeN2MAK I knew what the chokes were for and why they’re there. My point was an HT going through a repeater to relay info is a lot less bulky and cumbersome that dragging along a laptop and a bunch of cables. It was a great demonstration though of what can be done, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Yeah, it’s definitely not for everyone. I’m still just doing the basics with Winlink, but look forward to learning and trying more. Thanks for checking it out though!
@@TerminalElement I didn’t watch it, but showed up as recommended. My big issue with it is that people brag too much about it. Ooh look at me I got my WAS, DXCC, I’ve made tons of contacts, etc, etc. They didn’t earn those awards or make all of those contracts, their computer did. Now when you accomplish these awards using SSB & CW where you actually have to do some work to accomplish these awards, then you’ve earned them. Clicking a mouse isn’t work. With all of this said there are special use cases for using FT8/4 like a hearing handicap. But I find it hard to believe all people using these modes are partially or completely deaf.

Very cool! Nice job!
Thanks, I did the digipeater thing again today but with a different gateway.

@@truckinguy92 If it's not your cup of tea, then why are you watching and negatively commenting on a video about it? 😑
