    The evisceration of ethical foundations is the problem that Hallaq is highlighting. Knowledge without that tensioning is the very flaw in the drive of progress that modernity prides itself on. Something that hasn’t been questioned let alone deconstructed for its unintended consequences.

    need to redefine modernity. the component that interest s the ummah is science and technology, not its philosophy, law or legal system. the ummah has quranic philosophy which is enough. however , they have to have a thorough understanding of the other component.
