Tony Robinson narrating. He is useless in most regards
He was sort of funny in Blackadder but only because Rowan Atkinson fed him lines. As an original talent, fuggedaboutit

My uncle spent his entire service in WWII in the Merchant Marine. Unfortunately he had died before I was old enough to ask him about his service. I don't know if he enlisted to serve in the Merchant Marine or if he was assigned there, since he did not come from a usual sailing background. He was from a very landlocked area of Texas. I do know he enlisted after Pearl Harbor and served during the duration of the war.

Excellent report. And kudos for giving the Canadians credit. They are too often ignored. But you give the Americans credit for the corvettes. It was the Canadians who mass-produced corvettes. The Americans mass-produced the Liberty ships which for some reason you do not mention.

Well done! However as one who hates to see lives lost unnecessarily and this comes from me being a historian over 50 years there was one man responsible for many American lives in the first part of WW2 no not FDR. An Admiral in the US navy who apparently did not like the British. Any one know who.? Just a little history exam. To all who keep studying history BRAVO!

King failed to understand the simplistic notions of blacking out harbour lights (U Boats picked out their outlines and sunk them) and of shipping cargo across the Atlantic by convoy (U Boats called this their 'Happy Time'). He was replaced.

@@fuzzybunny506 The U.S. Navy was conducting transatlantic convoys a year before Pearl Harbor. King wasn't replaced by anyone until the end of 1945, and ordering coastal blackouts was above his paygrade. None of you geniuses have a clue.

Unfortunately for the Nazis Germany was equally vulnerable to marine trade in the forms of petroleum and foo, i.e.,. grain from the United States. So Germany lost the war as the British Naval blockade slowly strangled the ability for Germany to obtain strategic materials. Couple this with the bombing campaigns, and the result was a devastated Germany. Forced to its knees in total humiliating capitulation. BRITISH submarines sent many axis ships and submarines to the bottom as well. The Mediterranean is an Axis submarine graveyard.

    What have we learnt?
That we don't need to spend our limited money on even more new aircraft types such as Tempest.
We need to spend our precious funds on better conditions for our personal ( eg decent housing for our servicemen) to improve retention and our more ammunition stocks so we can keep the systems we have in the field longer.

@@nickdanger3802 granted, but I would to mention this were not technically Canadian corvettes for say. Dead giveaway is the names. They were in fact RN Corvettes on lone to Canada. Let us not forgot that Canadian shipyards were building corvettes as early as 39.
