At 8:01 - Moore and Mealy machines are important in electrical engineering. Their "alphabets" are signals at 0 or 1 logic levels. You can't do much in the way of digital control circuitry without these machine types. Synthesis techniques have been long established and are well understood The point here is that these machine types are built because they do generate outputs. They wouldn't be very useful if they didn't. Over all this is a good series.
