KH just changed their name from Chol Chnam Thmei to Sankranta in just a couple of years with disagreement from KH abroad they should keep their own name instead of following their neighbors. Search for "Long Beach’s new year festival: Some Cambodian Americans aren’t happy with the name Sankranta" from LA times on the net and read to see. No offense but your gov just try to ride the wave. Sadly no KH oppose them at all that many said in the future maybe we have to look for true KH culture outside their own land. you are not tai, yet you don't have to ride the wave of you neighbors to be accepted by the world. Many were even given military posts/ranks. Most tai tribes migrated and settled by the Ahom kings to escape Burmese imperialism. While there are also tribes like Khamyang who followed the Ahoms and settled here from Burma. This is why it is often said that Tai Khamyang, Tai Phake are "Ahoms" who migrated later, ie, they are very much the same people since they migrated from the same place (Moung Mao, present day Myanmar-Yunnan, China) I thought everyone knew about this, especially the Tai communities.

They assert that the Ahoms have abandoned their traditions, language, religion and other values that would have identified them as Tai.
