Cat's will get you, the little miscreants. 7 years ago, I went to the animal shelter to purchase a dog. I've never had a cat. I don't like cats. Yes, I came home with a cat. "Linus" grabbed me by the trouser leg and wouldn't let go.

The raggedy kitten kept walking in after setting off the automatic hospital emergency room doors. He became my favorite cat. Some years later our neighbors moved and their cat became our cat. First we built a house for her (heated of course), then she came inside for good. Think we have sheltered, adopted, and found homes for over 25 in the last 24 years.

@@beverlygannon4141 Thanks. We have also had quite a few of my dad's barn cats neutered. It made them far healthier and my dad couldn't afford it.

There are lots of cats that need homes, you don't have to wait for one to show up.
I had a cat that was so friendly I found out he was visiting at least three families in the neighborhood. I found out because two different times when he didn't come home for a while, I started knocking on doors. I knocked on one neighbors door they opened it, and there was my cat on their couch. Another time I was asking neighbors if they've seen my cat, my neighbor said we thought he was a stray, my son took him home. The third person knew he was my cat and she told me she would let him in for her kids to play with for an hour or so a day. My cats have chips and collars now.

I was never a cat person, but one day I opened the door to get the mail and a big beautiful black and white cat ran in, jumped on the kitchen table and basically announced he lives there.
That was in 2020.I do not know what I would do without him now.

That’s why you should adopt from a shelter. You could be saving a life- actually two. Two cats are better than one. I didn’t believe my vet but when I got the second one, it was like the most perfect thing. Once they get used to each other, you never have to feel guilty when you leave the house. They play with each other instead of stalking you. The list goes on… ❤

Brave it, with 2 exceptions all my cats have come from Cat Rescue Organisations. If you can, try and adopt a pair of cats, look at the adult cats and black cats, they have the hardest time finding someone to adopt them.

Years ago while were building a barn an extremely skinny kitten showed up in the partially built barn. My husband said don't feed it because it will never go away. He was right. Tigger lived in our barn for 16 years, and never came near the house. On cold winter nights she would sleep on a goat. To answer the question, yes that is how you get a cat. They just move in😂

It amazes me how many people think that isn't "there" cat. As a lifelong catted person, I tell you, that might not be your cat, but you ARE his person! The cat picks the "pet". I'm currently down to two ginger toms, so I expect the Cat Fairy to drop me off a kitten soon. Heck, I expect a Bobcat, even!

One of my cats now was a neighborhood cat that I trapped. I was going to get him neutered and shots and let him go, three different families were feeding him.
I brought him home from the vet and locked him a spare bedroom to let him heal, after a week I took him back to the vet to make sure everything healed right. I brought him home, opened the kitchen door and said, you're free to go. He laid down, he had no interest in leaving. That was a few years ago, he's still here, he does go out, but always come back when it's time to eat. He has a big belly so I think some of those people are still feeding him.

One day I went outside to call my cat in (he always comes when I call) and a neighbor I did not know was walking by. She said she wondered where he belonged because she often found him sleeping on her couch. She had no idea where he came from, and I had no idea that he went to her apartment. But I got to meet a nice neighbor, and now we sort of share the cat. He spends time at both apartments. I think we're both feeding him cause he's getting sort of chubby.

I'm allergic to cats, and they seem to know it, but I get foxes. The local guys bark at my back door and sleep in my garden. Now and then they bring me doggy toys they steal from the neighbors. I don't feed them. I don't let them in. I say hello and they wander off, and then come back in a day or two.

I used to feed one stray cat that I called Flynn after Errol Flynn, because every time I opened the front door he was ‘in like Flynn’ as the old saying goes. Slowly over the last 3 years that has now grown to 5 at the front door, and 4 at the back door, with several batches of kittens in there, plus one mum and babies I adopted. I still have the mum, who is now snipped, but managed to home the kittens she had. I’m sure they all tell each other to ‘come to this house for a free feed. This lady is cat crazy…’. Was out feeding the ones at the back door the other day when a tabby kitten just wandered up and started to eat. Never seen it before. Where did it come from? Who knows.

I've had 4 cats, the first I was allowed to adopt from the local farm as a kitten when I was about 9. The other 3 have all moved away from various neighbours.
The first of these came through the bedroom window when I was in bed, I carried it downstairs threw it out, and before I arrived back in my bedroom it had come back in the window. Talking to the former owner it was being tormented by her 3 year old child and clearly wanted out.
The second was one of about a dozen at a property, non of which were being shown much love, it was timid and couldn't be approached. Sitting out having a BBQ I dropped a piece of lamb fat off my plate, the cat grabbed it from under a bush. After that she came around regularly and stopped being shy, next thing she is coming in the house.
The third was also initially timid, apparently being bullied by the other cats at the property. During the covid lockdown I was sitting on the settee with the door open regularly. Over the course of a week she went from timid to sitting on my lap. I spoke to the neighbour who was happy that she was being cared for.

Yes cats will do that. I was feeding a stray and he would come inside and sit on my couch or on me. Then one of the other strays had a litter of kittens and he moved out to the neighbour across the street. It was like he was saying ‘Nup. I’m off. Its gonna be real noisy here now…’😂😂
