Dee Murray is a brilliant interpreter of a chord progression, and you can see Jamerson influence, John Paul Jones etc but he seems to have a very distinctive voice on those Elton tunes. Also just locks in with the drummer. A real talent. More Dee Murray please.
For the last couple years whenever I heard this song I would say to myself I'm going to go on TH-cam and find someone doing a bass cover but never did. Well, today I finally did and I'm certainly glad I did. This was the first one I chose and I can honestly say I do not need to watch any of the others because this was stunning!
Hey Mimi. I didn't know you were from Philly? What an interesting city it must be. So much history and culture. I can imagine you've seen some amazing artists? Have fun with this song and thanks :)
This recording is spectacular. It is really hard to find a bass cover that is awesome. I love this so much. I’m gonna go look through your channel and see if you have funeral for a friend or the Beatles rain
These are all SO VERY well done. Would love to maybe someday see a video on your process. Can't give away all your secrets, I'm sure. But the basics and the tools you use for transcription would be very educational for a lot of folks, I suspect. Maybe there's already a video here on that somewhere...
I've thought about it, but I'm not really sure how to approach it and I'm not sure how exciting a video it would be. There's not a lot to it. Me sitting there with my bass stop and starting the song, finding the notes and writing them down in some notation software when I find them...that's about it :) Thank you. I'm glad you like the videos :)
I remember when this song came out, i was about 4 or 5, it gave me goosebumps, really didn't know what a bass guitar was until a few years ago, I only knew good music... Edit, thank you!!!
Does anyone know if EJ basically handed him the progression, and said, "Have at it." and on take 4 or whatever, this is what he came up with on the spot?
Very nice vid. As an guitar player I always fancied playing some bass but this bassline is the one that made me actually buy a bass guitar and practice. Without the superb Dee Murray bass line the song is good not great.

Dee was a legend for sure. One of my favorite rock bass players. There's another one coming next week ;)
A masterful bass line played by two masters: Dee Murray and you, Greg! Great job!
You're very kind...thank you :)
Thanks for this one. Dee Murray was a phenomenal bass player. To me his playing was what got me into Elton.
He was a special player for sure. Very creative but yet held it down and never got his role and function. Thanks for the comment.
Another beautiful job. So clean and crisp.
Thank you very much...cheers! :)
Fantastic as always🎉
Thank you :)
Great job Greg. These transcriptions are exceptional! And that you for adding the chords.

Awesome song! Awesome bass playing! If you haven't yet, could you play *"Step Into Christmas",* another awesome song by Sir Elton John?
Classic bass line!

Always loved this bass line and it makes the song. You know it's going places right from the intro. Well played and thanks for doing this one.
Thanks very much. I really like this bass line too. I wonder if it was written out?

You are incredible. Thank you for adding the sheet music above. I always wonder about what string and fret for the note shown. You clearly show both.
Good luck with it...thanks!

Greg Fairweather is a treasure! Every time I look on youtube for a bass tutorial guess who I find
Thank you Oliver :)

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for so many recordings :)

His bass line definitely adds something special to the song. Thanks!
