Believe it or not, I accidentally met this gentleman once, outside the venue where he was playing with Vince Gill. I turned around and there he was. A very warm and modest man, and I was lucky to be able to tell him that I had bought one of his solo albums. He had a unique style, and suited Vince Gill to a T. The only time I ever saw Conway Twitty he had no steel on stage.
One of the real all time great players. My Dad took me to see Conway Twitty when I was 12, I didn't really care anything about Conway (sorry Conway), I wanted to see John Hughey.
“Papa”.....John, you played so well when you were with us!!! The greats!!! I’m sure your playing for the Great now!!! What a wonderful person he was...thanks John...Rest on high
i had the great great pleasure and privilege of playing on the same stage with John and his brother, when they played with Slim Rhodes in early 60s. Slim played at the annual Soldiers and Sailors Reunion in Mammoth Spring, Ar, ever August. Slim let my band set in a couple of times during his shows....one of them was when the Hughey brothers were with him. They were fantastic musicians. Butch George played lead guitar and they could do Ghost Riders in the Sky like no one else could.
I met John in St Louis, Mo. at the annual steel guitar convention, had a picture made with him. Very gracious fellow, and so easy to talk to. Treated me like I was the celebrity. What a fine gentleman.
One dislike totally tone deaf and jealous ..show us your talent then thumbs 👎 down loser 😂😂 post your big video .. super dooper 👂👂hero ...that is just absolutely brilliant playing .you trollers just either have to stop complaining and commenting if it isn't constructive ..you who ever you are couldn't even string that man's guitar👍👍👍👏👏👏🏴🥃
Met him at St.Louis steel convention, he was kind enough to pose with me for a picture.Great humble man, unbelievable steel legend.
I know he played wih Vince Gill beautifully , but to me he will always be remembered for the classic Conway sound. You always knew right away .
John is a legend and will always be one. Nobody could give that smooth vibrato and play the upper register like him. Sure miss him.

John will make the listener weep just like his steel!
I can't say enough about this guy,and i could listen to him play steel like this all day and night
Vince has a song about him called Buttermilk John. And with great reason.
Besides being a great player, John had tone to the bone. Always a treat to see John.
Just a wonderful old gem!! Classic John Hughey!!
Beautiful beyond words
Beautiful, with such feeling.
The emotion in his playing is sometimes overwhelming.😥🎼
Wonderful well played classic!
He had the most emotional 'upward sweep' of any of the Greats.

Thanks Tommy. We've all tried to copy this master, but sometimes it's like a singer trying to sound like Roy Orbison. Close but no cigar.
AWESOME
The best.
John hughey
I hear Conway music coming from that Steel Guitar no denying who’s playing it.
Looks like Chester Hughey. ❤
This is very similar to "I Love You Because"
Hughey is deeply missed.
Like listening to hank sing
Some play and some play better
