Belyaev is incomparable. There have been so many great tenors but only one of him. He was always the sweetest, most powerful of singers, but by this time his pure voice has developed a clarity and discipline that is rarely heard. His technique is flawless. I am bowled over every time I hear him.
I fully agree!!Nobody in the eternity can come even close to his performance and many tried and some are still trying/i.e. Vadim Ananev currend soloist/without success. He was not called/on another note/ the first and only MISTER KALINKA for nothing!!!
@ Richard Granfield Thank you for your wonderful comment. I agree, and I'm sad that I never heard him sing live. He was a great imitator, and there are many jokes hidden in his performances - though not in this one, which makes me cry.
thanks to God (and socialism) the Red Army Choir has existed, and I can listen to them when I'm tired of living... probably my heart is as old fashioned as they are, with their lyrical faith ... thanks for sharing
You are so right. Belyaev was a member of the Party, and the choir's arrangement is straight out of old Kazan Cathedral, which is where old man Alexandrov came from. The Alexandrovs were practising Eastern Orthodox. Stalin knew this and protected them. So yes, God and Socialism co-existed in the music for sure. And it works, whatever your religion and politics may be.
Lyrics in English. Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers, Let's get some sleep soldiers, Let her sleep a little. Came to us on the front spring Soldiers was not sleep - Not because the gun beat, And because once again sing, Forgetting that there are fights, Crazy singing nightingales. Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers, Let's get some sleep soldiers, A little sleep. But the war for the nightingale! In fact the nightingale own life. Not sleeping soldiers, remembering home And over the pond garden green, Where nightingales sing all night, A soldier in the house waiting. Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers, Let's get some sleep soldiers, Let her sleep a little. And tomorrow will again fight - Oh well appointed destiny, So we go without dolyubiv, From our wives, from our cornfields; But with each step in the battle Us closer to home in his native land. Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers, Let's get some sleep soldiers, Let her sleep a little.
Я считаю, лучше Беляева эту песню никто не исполнил. Он эталон. Великолепно и блистательно исполнена Евгением и песня "Ник яка мисячна" вот ссылка. th-cam.com/video/u8zb82o9h-8/w-d-xo.html
Yes, and that was always Boris' big joke - he'd have his soloist doing the impossible, then the whole choir would blow your mind by doing the same thing. They had a great teacher who gave them complete control of chest voice and/or head voice, especially in the upper register, and that allowed powerful effects.
@ Sefrizal Arga Chandra Nugroho I think they are both great in different ways. The tradition, following Lemeshev, Vinogradov then Nikitin then Belyaev here, is to be able to imitate the technique of past great singers, and then sing even better, or at least in an interesting way. They had very different voices and personalities.
I don't have a translation, but I understand that the singer is telling the nightingale to be quiet as the soldiers are sleeping, in preparation for their last battle. I believe that this is figurative, i.e. the soldiers have died, and they are preparing to act out their bravery in heaven.

I stand corrected the best ever red army choir soloists is Georgi Vinogradov for the simple reason that BELYAEV is not a singer he is GOD!!!!!
Прекрасней исполнения Евгения Беляева нет. Грандиозное пение! СЛАВА АНСАМБЛЮ ИМЕНИ АЛЕКСАНДРОВА!!!!!

Замечательно
This beautiful music transcends nationalities, borders and politics.
What a voice!
Lyrics in English.
Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers,
Let's get some sleep soldiers,
Let her sleep a little.
Came to us on the front spring
Soldiers was not sleep -
Not because the gun beat,
And because once again sing,
Forgetting that there are fights,
Crazy singing nightingales.
Nightingales, nightingales do not disturb the soldiers,
Let's get some sleep soldiers,
A little sleep.

In fact the nightingale own life.
Not sleeping soldiers, remembering home
And over the pond garden green,

I'm freaking glad I'm subbed! Thank you very much for this nice vid.

One of the most beautiful war songs ever written.

Quel talent, sans comprendre les paroles, sa voix me bouleverse...
This is my favorite version of evening bells by the Don Kosaks Sergej Jaroff Tenor Andrej Bieliki 1962.
