    • @Toriana_Shavon_LaVannah_Blade
      @Toriana_Shavon_LaVannah_Blade 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think it was the gifts in general. She gifted them food and toiletries implying they’re very poor. Also, when you give gifts, you don’t create a constant stream to make it seem endless. You pull out a bag for each person and hand them everything.
      In my opinion they were presented very sloppily and as though they had put no thought into the gifts. I would have asked if anything was needed or wanted instead of just assuming how poor my new in-laws are. That’s how I approached my East Indian family in Kuwait. I asked if they needed or wanted anything. Now for my nieces and nephews, as they were children I just automatically bought clothes and toys.

    • @crazychic210
      @crazychic210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      First of all the translation sucks. What the parents were saying was they were surprised that the mom gave them gifts. He thought that because they’re poor that they might belittle them. But it was the opposite. They were surprised that she just kept pulling gifts one after another and also when she gave the “bracelet” from her wrist. Also they were both shy from the looks of it.

  • @Jupiters_demise

    As a Filipina woman, I actually think this was kind of Karen.. she’s not looking down on them nor insinuating anything offensive gifting them toiletries. In my culture unfortunately if you don’t bring home ‘pasalubong’ (gifts) they get offended, and if you do gift them depending on what it is it’s not good enough. I’m Filipino and the title is misleading. They never felt disrespected. Pasalubong is part of the culture, which they appreciated Karen for doing. They were just surprised by the amount of gifts she provided, especially by giving gifts she was wearing (which is common for family members to do but not like people they just met).

Watching that episode makes me miss my home country. I am always thankful and I humble myself being a Filipino. Cheers

  • @MS-rv9tq
    @MS-rv9tq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Don’t read into the title - it’s purely misleading (coming directly from a Filipino). They weren’t unappreciative as pasalubong is highly appreciated, they were just surprised at what she gave them. It’s also very awkward to have gifts handed like that publicly in front of a camera - how would you feel?
    “Ikog” is a term that doesn’t have a direct translation, but basically means “I’m shy that you are doing this for me and don’t feel worth receiving”.
    TLC and their bad translation is trying to stir the pot

    The only reason I think Pedro tries to be petty about Royal and Angenettes relationship is because he feels some type of way about the difference in how they treat angenette and her family compared to him and his family. When they went to his grandmas house they got out, talked shit and left without meeting his family so for Chantel to compare the two places I see why he feels like that. They treated him and his family so disrespectful compared to hers.

    I didn't think chantels mom or family was looking down on them, it was very respectful of them and generous to bring gifts to the family. I bet Angenettes family won't feel that way anymore when they're using their gifts. Plus they're the ones that didn't look appreciative for the gifts, I don't think they even tried to say Thank You even if it was in their language then Angenette could've translated the Thank You to the Family Chantel, LoL 😆

      @Steven Should all people from third world countries jump for joy and wag their tails after being talked bad about? If that is the case, it is you who have much ego and pride. Angenette lowered her pride, took all the insults and was shown no mercy even when she had a miscarriage. Instigating problems is not good. They are already married.
      Something tells me they went all the way to her third world country in a plot to try ruin their their son and brother's wedding.

    Ok so many doesn’t understand Filipino culture. Any gifts given are very much appreciated, but Filipinos are full of pride, deep inside they are happy but shamed to show it too much. The used bracelet given by Karen to Anjanettes mom meant it is a special gesture giving what you like to wear or treasure and passing it to someone. When my friend likes what i have on and comment on it, i know she liked it so i pass it to her and shes happy.

    TITLE should be Pedro INSULTS Agnette's Family. As a filipino, I don't think they were insulted by the gifts. It is our culture to accept gifts aka pasalubong. In fact if you don't bring a gift to their house that is more of an INSULT. I think they were more thrown off at the watch. Filipino parent eventhough they live a simply lif hates feeling belittled. They just don't want to be pittied over. They weren't insulted at all.

    Filipino culture is different. We were taught at a young age to not accept readily what strangers or relatives give us, like we have so much pride to accept gifts. Even when we were hungry and they offer us food, we don’t admit we were hungry because we were ashamed. Well that was before because our parents instill on us the pride. I am glad the young ones nowadays are different, they are honest to tell their feelings.

    Oh Lord this is the classic scene of colonial bribing. I know the mum might mean well but let me say as someone from Africa, this would feel so humiliating and tactless to the hosts. They feel pride in their living conditions however poor they are. Give gifts but do so discreetly and don't make a big deal out of it, eg just leave the gift bags with names written on them to sort through later. That's culturally appropriate and tactful. Never take off something off you and give as a gift! It looks like a cheap handout! These people are not beggars they are proud hardworking people who do not see the economic status as being a differentiator. As a black family I would have imagined they would be much more sensitive and historically aware, i.e know about all this before making such major faux pas! Come on the son should have briefed them at least on conduct and expectations.

Every culture is different, that's why you should ask the person who knows them best if that's ok to bring gifts. And often than not, most people here frowned upon receiving gifts, ESP from your in laws - a second hand, most likely used bracelet. Thats just it. It depends actually on the family. If she thinks she can afford that here in the PH, why give her a used bracelet? You can do better than that. Much better if she handed her a perfume I think from US.

I bet if Karen was taken out of the picture, then they'd ALL BE HAPPY and FREE FROM ALL THE STUPID DRAMA that's AlWAYS present in their family. It's sad to me, but I also believe, 100% that all this trouble stems from this crazy, wacked out woman named Karen

Bringing gifts is tradition when you’re coming home, but to them they were given extravagant gifts so they were just shocked and thought maybe they’re looking down upon us or maybe that’s just how they do it in America.
