Did you even watch walkthroughs or play the video game? The characters’ flashback won’t even matter as much in chapter 1. As a whole, chapter one is the general piece of ending the danganronpa killing games
The entirety of Chapter 1 never would've been as potent if Kaede wasn't as endearing and strong-willed as she was. That chapter served as the start of Shuichi's character arc, which in itself isn't anything great, IF he didn't start out as one of the weakest characters that progressed into the strongest protagonist in the series. Whereas every protagonist before him has only managed to defeat the mastermind, he's the first protagonist in 53 games to defeat the killing game as a WHOLE. If it weren't for Kaede encouraging him to face his fears and attempt to end the killing game, he probably would have commit suicide or ended up as a victim himself. Yes, Kaede serves as a means to an end, but she's far from some throw away damsel in distress meant to strictly serve the purpose of motivation. She IS that motivation through her characterization, extending that hope to the people around her, even stubbornly doing so to the point where some characters become annoyed with her. Its actually for the purpose of the players connection to the game like an antenna which lets the player manipulate the characters i think. Also Tsumugi did mention something about antennas in the 6th chapter

I actually like how there's a different theme for Perjury, it's a nice and subtle hint for what you need to do in that perticular Nonstop Debate, and I think that's pretty neat.

I love how now that V3 is out and we all know what happened, that the two characters that were supposed to be important characters ended up being the two who died first in the first trial.
They were the important ones though. V3 END GAME SPOILERS: The Last Trial is a re-trial of the First Trial where Shuichi is trying to clear Kaede's name and reveal the fact the Killing Game began with a lie. So in essence Kaede and Rantarou became the central pieces of the puzzle to unveil the mastermind.
Eh... Might not be a good idea to just say that spoiler like that. Regardless of how long the games' been out, some people might not have gotten a chance to play it, and these types of games are the ones where the story matters. I'm a huge fan of the series but I didn't find the series myself until the first two games plus the spin off were out. Obviously the type of people who'd come to this video are mostly fans who've already played the game, but on the off chance this video drew people to be curious about the series, you might wanna edit your comment so it doesn't ruin things for them.

i like how in "hope vs despair" MOSTLY stays the same, cause in every game, no matter what situation anyone is in, they are still in a battle of hope and despair. (spoiler edit down here) (edit) i could see why danganronpa v3 style is different cause, rather than the main timeline, where TTH and GD are REAL events, while v3 and the entire danganronpa franchise in their timeline is well fictional or maybe they just like jazz or sumn idk ask them not me edit 2 (one year later): it's prob also because that in V3, they fight for Truth and Lies, and less on Hope and Despair I guess

I love how now that V3 is out and we all know what happened, that the two characters that were supposed to be important characters ended up being the two who died first in the first trial.

The Last Trial is a re-trial of the First Trial where Shuichi is trying to clear Kaede's name and reveal the fact the Killing Game began with a lie. So in essence Kaede and Rantarou became the central pieces of the puzzle to unveil the mastermind.
Eh... Might not be a good idea to just say that spoiler like that. Regardless of how long the games' been out, some people might not have gotten a chance to play it, and these types of games are the ones where the story matters. I'm a huge fan of the series but I didn't find the series myself until the first two games plus the spin off were out.
Obviously the type of people who'd come to this video are mostly fans who've already played the game, but on the off chance this video drew people to be curious about the series, you might wanna edit your comment so it doesn't ruin things for them.
I'm pretty sure I prefaced the spoilers with a warning and plenty of space. Otherwise it'd just be impossible to talk about spoiler events period.

Love how the Debate - Panic has drums that overpower the main song. Just like how when during Mass Panic Debates, most voices are overpowered by a single yelling person.

i like how in "hope vs despair" MOSTLY stays the same, cause in every game, no matter what situation anyone is in, they are still in a battle of hope and despair.

i could see why danganronpa v3 style is different cause, rather than the main timeline, where TTH and GD are REAL events, while v3 and the entire danganronpa franchise in their timeline is well fictional
or maybe they just like jazz or sumn idk ask them not me
edit 2 (one year later): it's prob also because that in V3, they fight for Truth and Lies, and less on Hope and Despair I guess
GD had that whole “cuz it’s a game” thing so I’m not sure if it was a real event or not.

goodbye despair took place in the hope restoration program or the other name for it to return themselves to 'normal' and not ultimate despair, which indeed were a program, which, monokuma says 'its a game'. at the end of the actual game, we can see hajime (and i guess a bit of izuru) on jabberwock island, so yeah, the events that took place in GD were real, unless you count V3 to be canon.
