Thanks for the video from the 2019 Hamvention. The sign "Velkommen til Syttende Mai", towards the end of the video, means "Welcome to 17th of May", as you say. 17 May is the Norwegian Constitution Day, and includes a massive celebration every year. Norwegians at home and abroad, and there are millions of people of Norwegian descent in U.S.A., celebrate 17 May if at all they are able to, including the many Norwegians in U.S.A. It is a national holiday and the biggest celebration in Norway, by far, and not one to be missed. The fact that the Dayton Hamvention regularly collides with the all-important 17 May celebration, may regularly have reduced the Norwegian attendance at in the Hamvention, as sacrificing the 17 May celebration for a ham radio event may be a "social challenge". The Norwegian Constitution is the second oldest written constitution in the world, junior only to the U.S. Constitution, and we are very proud of it. In 2014, Norwegian hams celebrated the 200 years of the constitution (signed on 17 May 1814) by using LI and LJ as special event prefixes, in stead of LA and LB. Check out my LI6VQ listing on QRZ.com qrz.com/db/LI6VQ/ for more information about "Syttende Mai". 73 Frode LA6VQ (& LI6VQ)
David, as a new Ham from overseas, who's never been to a Hamfest, my hats off to you! I felt I was there!!! Great comments and info on all the Organizations and Vendors. 73 from HI8ESF
Hey Dave. My friend and I stopped you at HV and said hi! It was truly great to meet you. When I saw you coming, I said 'That's Dave Casler!". Thank you for your videos and being so kind at the show!
Dave, I think the Ameco you saw is brand new. Bob Heil bought one and showed it on Ham Nation a few weeks ago. My 1957 ARRL Handbook shows one in the back pages for $16.95. Extra coils for different bands were $.50. I didn't buy one as I never learned code back then. I did buy the Ameco code course consisting of 78 rpm records. 73, Kent K9AEE
Nice coverage, Dave. Thanks! I saw you a couple of times at Xenia but you seemed to be in a hurry and I didn't stop you to say hello. I posted a Hamvention video log on my own channel with some interviews, and also my visit to the museum of broadcasting at the Voice of America Bethany Station if you want to check it out! The WLW transmitter antenna down the road was just an amazing sight to top off my Hamvention adventure. Thanks for your many videos...I'm a recently new ham and your information has been invaluable! I bought an IC-7300 at the expo partially based on your thorough review. 73!
It was lovely to meet you at Hamvention when you were sitting at the W5KUB stand (and before you got sunburned!) I hold the equivalent of an Amateur Extra licence in the UK, but more often that not I learn new things from your videos. Thank you for the time and trouble you take to make and upload them. 73 and God bless you OM. From Edmund M0MNG.
Dave: I was pleased to see the two Icoms (746 & 756) I brought to Xenia were featured in this video (along with the BOAT ANCHORS my buddies brought)! Although I saw many of the same older Icoms in the flea area, I did manage to sell both of mine. Difference being, we put up a dipole antenna between two speaker poles and I had all our radios operating, although it appears we set that up after you walked by. See you there next year! 73 K1GWW
Great video recap of the Hamvention. As a first time attendee on Friday it was nice to feel like I had someone walking with me explaining things I didn't see or know what they where.
Hi there Dave! Great to see what HamVention is all about. Thank you for bringing it to us. I've learned a great deal from you and look forward to more of your teachings. Be well and thanks again for your time and knowledge. Ken - KC1HRC
Hi Dave. Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, Hara was already crumbling. There are a few urban exploration videos on TH-cam that were taken shortly after it went out of business. Major parts of the building had already began to collapse. I live in a suburb of Dayton and it's sad that Hara was allowed to deteriorate like it did. In the past, there was always something happening there. Car shows, RV shows, gun shows, high school proms (Hara started as a ball room) concerts, hockey and of course Hamvention. I here a lot of complaints about the fair grounds, but there just isn't another indoor venue like Hara. The tornado that hit Hara has devastated this area. I think the count was 5 confirmed tornadoes, one being an EF3. Our ARES repeaters were nonstop with spotters, storm chasers and later, damage reports. 73's Brian KE8BFX
Excellent video Dave! Because of my caregiving duties for my elderly Mom with dementia I don't have the opportunity to go to Dayton for the hamvention (or anywhere else for that matter) but watching your video is the next next thing. 73 Bill KD8YUQ

That Xenia tornado the second one was in September of 2000 I remember that very well because I just started a new job and I got called out to help out with the emergency at a shelter and that was in September of 2000 19 years ago and then they remodeled the fairgrounds and they had a volunteers meeting when they reopen the fairgrounds all the folks that helped out in the 2000 Xenia tornado
It sticks in my mind there was a tornado through Xenia sometime in the mid-1970s. I was in Dayton at Wright-Patterson for some Air Force training and remember driving through Xenia.

TenTec never really went out of business.
