Pranks for watching. I started to believe this myself after a while! Hope you enjoyed this escapism into a world that might've been. No C64s were harmed. Watch again & see description for fun infos. Normal programming has been resumed as soon as possible...
That was a good one! Had me for a while, the idea sounds.. well, plausible, but crazy, but i dont think commodore would make a game that fries their computers.
C64 scene should have a competition for the best shortest game/demo, and also competition for the most genius way to deliver that game/demo. There might be some pretty interesting results.
That was freaking brilliant. I believed you all the way through, and I was actually angry with myself for never having seen this. Well done sir. You got us good.
Thanks for sharing the "behind the scenes" footage of the special effects, otherwise I wouldn't have known whether or not you'd really blown up your C64 . . . despite you having just said that the whole postcard thing was a prank . . . that's how convincing your special effects were!
I can see why you were in movies, when the C64 blew up your face was so sad, great acting. I was fooled till right at the end! Back in the day when they were in shops like WHSmith I’d type a basic program like 10 print ‘something rude’ 20 goto 10 then think I was really clever!
When the C64 started sparking I thought it looked like editing. Then the beeping, lights flickering, fire extinguisher said otherwise. Then I realized that it's April 1. So did the C64 get fried or not?
I loaded up TH-cam this morning just to see what April 1st jokes have been uploaded, you did not disappoint. How did you manage to keep a straight face throughout. Don't think you should have confessed to it until tomorrow, I'm sure you could have had someone fooled. Very entertaining.
I really hope that new subscribers will not only find the new videos but also the very well produced material you have made until now. They all deserve the bigger audience!
FYI, if you accidentally lick the wrong side of the stamp you can erase the program. The same thing can happen with modern day SD cards - I guess some things haven't moved on as much as we'd hoped!
Fantastically executed Peri, I was totally into it up until the very end. Very, very, very well acted. Honestly, it has been many years since somebody caught me on April fools day, but you managed it! Thanks for a wonderful video.
I watched this almost 2 months later cause youtube recommended this video and I did not pay attention to the upload date. This was absolutely brilliant. Gladiator Morseus )) CIA chip! Russian forum screenshot that actually just has very basic BASIC stuff ) You almost got me. Nice one. Subbed.
Well done sir, well done. So many points in that were triggering me with a ‘wait....what??’ (Who yahoo’s anything???) but let I it go for the coolness of the rest of the story. Like others, this came on the tail of the LP with the code on it so I was left open for this. Awesome job. First time in YEARS I’ve been gotten.
You might have had me had you produced a stamp-sized version of the postcard (scanned and resized it, or something), but watching this in the evening of April Fool's Day has made me more aware of the "not quite right". Still got utterly startled by the blow up, though, so well done with that.
LOL as soon as I saw the title I was like its an April fools joke video, but I got to admit you got me good with that exploding port prank I jummped too lol good one.
First, congrats on the subscriber milestone. Second, I love that T-shirt! That is hilarious. Anyway, while your printed code program was just a gag, there was a thing back in the mid 80s that let you print out programs as a series of dots on paper like a page-wide QR code, and then to read the program back in you'd scan it through their peripheral. The brand was Cauzin Softstrip (by Cauzin Systems), but I've never been able to find one for sale anywhere. With it, companies could publish short programs in magazines or something, and people with that thing could read it in. I don't know if it was Commodore compatible or only worked with other computers.
Ha-ha, you completely got me there. Watching it so late after release I didn't notice the date. Great video and thanks for all the effort you put into them.
Well, I have to say that you had me 100%. Probably the best April fools I have ever fallen for. Even my wife, watching alongside, called out 'unplug it!!'
Great idea for a joke! Lightpens only work with light, of course, but for my part I thought maybe it reacts to changes in contrast.. you got us there. Thumbs up!
Love the CHANNEL!! You need to do a couple segments on the different BBS programs that started to change computing with the C-64 and Apple computers. I ran a BBS using C-Net and it was so much fun. PS - I may have missed the episodes too!
Fantastic! Genuinely had me going there. Computer related gimmicks like that were not uncommon in the 1980s so it sounded plausible (also forgot what day it is!)
In my c64 time, i did have a light-pen, but it didn't work (or maybe very bad. Too long ago to remember correct), until i discovered that the distance between screen (where the picture is, not the glass at front) and sensor was to big. After removing some plastic from the tip of the pen, it worked without problem.
Congrats! I am shocked to hear that you only have 64k subs. This is one of the finest channels on the platform. Can’t wait to see you hit the million. Keep it up!
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️ I've only been going a couple of years, those with much more subscribers have been doing it a decade or more. But we're getting there...

People have tried pranking me on April fools day for years and failed..until now! My three year old son almost screamed when I jumped while using the same bleeped out language 😂😂 this was brilliant

just want to watch this one again 4 the 3rd time, Love this episode. You see I heard that 'flippen' roamer back in 80's about this stamp and I was hooked instantly as I never owned a light pen! You where damn convincing! I can lie like people sometimes do ... and say I knew all a long, but I do not have ego issues so, no 'a fool I am' 🤪 I must say I was frowning a lot on some technical issues you mentioned that my brain was saying "what?? Only in hide-site I know why your face is almost giving it away from the beginning ... is as you where on the brink of laughter all the time, did you honestly did this without bursting into laughter. The uncut version should be fun 🤣 Love that you showed us how you made the effects and smoke ... see I was thinking...wow that smoke look too real, how did he do that!
When I started getting suspicious, I looked at the date of the video, and it said "March 31, 2020", so I told myself "Naah, he wouldn't post an april fools video one day early !"... With everything going on I had forgotten what the date was... Here I was thinking "I don't remember this promotion... Why don't I remember it? Why wouldn't it have been done with the BBC Micro or Sinclair rather than a Commodore?" Great gag, and I'm glad to discover my memory isn't completely abandoning me. Some real effort must have gone into this. Love it.
You got me (at least with the stamp part), I was sitting there thinking "Well... I have never heard of this, but it seems plausible". Very well executed sir! ;)
Great stunt! Best April Fools are those that don't go full steam ahead on the Bizarrotron scale, but things like this one, starting from something actually existing and slightly altering it so that it's still remotely plausible. And in the end, fire, smoke and brimstone. So, for next year, just add brimstone, and you're good ot go. ;D
I totaly forgot it was April 1st. Then I saw this vid and right from the start I knew this had to be a joke. After a good 10 minutes I was thinking... this has to be an old april fools joke... so I scrolled down to see the date. And to my surprise it is today! So thank you for being my calendar. It was very entertaining.
You had me, right up until the sparking. I honestly thought "huh, not too far fetched, so far. Certainly plausible, but I've never heard of it, before".

Sad you don;t have more subs. thought you had 100k, 128k? Keep it up. I like the balance of British and US retrocomputing. And your love for the Commodore. Now I am wishing I hadn't gotten rid of my VIC20 with the bad power supply. Yes, the assassins guild does in fact use Commodores for their communications, though for some reason I thought the text looked more Vic 20 than C64. Well, that’s not how you use a lightpen 😝 Works only on CarTs due to the scanlines.

Same here! Excellent performance! And great fun to watch!
"I've been googling on yahoo" =)
It's all shits and giggles until you get caught.
That's the bit that made me check the date!
I mean, that technically used to be a thing. Google got its start as being the search engine for Yahoo. :/ google.yahoo.com used to be real.

so how you will call it? "Yahooing?"

Great video with very beautifully carried out ElectroBoom moments! Kudos on your joke!
