    So glad you are having the students in for education. I saw one restoration where they got local building apprentice students in to be taught and practice their skills, restoring the building at the same time.

    A player piano (also known as a pianola) is a self-playing piano, containing a pneumatic or electro-mechanical mechanism that operates the piano action via programmed music recorded on perforated paper, or in rare instances, metallic rolls, with more modern implementations using MIDI. In other words, a piano that plays itself!

    • @SarahGreen523
      @SarahGreen523 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm thinking it may be one with metallic rolls and be totally automatic. I have a player piano and I have to pump pedals to make it play. That's a baby grand and there's no room for pedals or paper piano rolls. Man, I'd really like to see that in action. I hope he shows it off when they eventually set it up.

    I find it amazing that with all the local support and history of this building, that vandals would still be an issue. I know that some people really suck but in my head, I see an angry cane wielding old british man shooing away vandals.

    Just watching it in my recliner, sipping coffee was exhausting. Stewardship like yours is admirable and the fact that you are young and strong you’ll likely have a couple of years left when you’re done. Lol. I caught the book release on BBC news and was immediately hooked. I subbed! Yours in binging. Cheers!

    Someone has already explained what a pianola is, but my Great Aunt also had one in her house from Victorian times. It had rolls of music inside which it played automatically.

    I like the 'light' entertainment at the end... taking render off a wall is no fun either. I am sure moving that piano was no joke. I was with a team that had to do the same with a Steinway that was donated to a mansion project. The oak floorboards were creaking under the weight of the cast iron frame of a grand piano just being rolled along the floor. Not to mention one of the legs giving way and someone having to climb underneath to try and reattach it while 9 people held the piano up.

    I can't remember that fire door "Both" there 1975-8 we use to go from the bar straight up the step through the passage to the loo's -

    • @HopwoodXIV
      @HopwoodXIV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Trev - hmm interesting- maybe it was added after that- I was told it is from the 1960s but maybe it was the 1980s. I suppose that would explain the electric green color!! 😂

      @@HopwoodXIV I think your in the ball park about 1980 - A lot smoked in the bar and just past the loo's were the stairs leading to the rooms over the bar where most of the Student Union members lived - we use to call them "The Presidents men"

    Progress may look slow, but it's still progress. You should hire security for that place. Looters are probably stealing metals to recycle.

    It's frost that gets the brickwork. As rainwater freezes it expands and pushes the bricks apart.
